Cranberry Orange Cookies Recipe

What I love about this simple cookie recipe is that it’s really easy to do. You’ll even be surprised to find out that there is cottage cheese that is added to this recipe with orange flavors! It’s such a great addition to pair with the dried cranberries because it adds a bit of moisture and fat to the recipe that takes the flavor over the top!

My boys always ask me to make these cookies during the cooler months of the year – and I’d have to agree with their timing. While I’ll always eat them any time I can make them, there is something special about making them during the holiday months.

How long do you need to chill the dough before baking?

This cookie recipe does require chilling the dough for 1 hour once you make it. Since this is an important part of the recipe, make sure that you plan ahead to allow yourself that downtime.

These orange and cranberry flavored cookies are one of my top favorite treats!

Ingredients

Cookie

  • 2 c all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1 c cold butter (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 c. + 3 tbsp. cottage cheese
  • 1 c dried cranberries
  • 2 tbsp orange zest

Icing

  • 1 c powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp. orange extract
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 4 oz butter (softened)

Instructions

To Make the Cookies

  1. Start by cutting the butter into the flour. The butter pieces should be the size of small peas.
  2. Grab the dried cranberries and stir them into the mixture along with the orange zest and cottage cheese. This should form a ball of dough.
  3. Put in the fridge and let it chill for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  5. Put parchment paper on a baking sheet and roll out the dough so that it's 1/8 inch thick.

Cut the cookies. I used a 2 1/4 inch cookie cutter to do this. You'll have leftover scraps of dough that you can reroll and cut to make more cookies.
  6. Put them on the baking sheet and add them to the center rack of the oven. Bake for 15 minutes or so.
  7. Take out and put on a wire rack for cooling time.

To Make the Icing

  1. Mix the butter and cream cheese until fluffy.
  2. Add in the extract and powdered sugar and stir.
  3. Stir in a tad bit of water, milk, or orange juice if you need to thin it out.
  4. Use a whisk to drizzle the homemade icing over the top of the cookies.
