Can you freeze leftover beef stroganoff?

Yes, you can but I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of the texture of frozen cooked noodles. They tend to heat up mushier which isn’t my favorite. I prefer to just make a plan to eat the leftovers over the next few days and since this recipe is so good, it’s never been an issue.

What can I serve instead of ground beef?

Replacing the ground beef in cooking can be a healthful and tasty option for those who are looking for alternative proteins.

Possible alternatives include plant-based proteins, like beans and lentils, as well as other animal-sourced proteins such as poultry, fish, and pork.

Plant-based proteins make excellent lower-calorie hamburger substitutes when combined with spices or herbs and common ingredients such as bread crumbs or cornmeal.

Alternatively, foods such as boneless skinless chicken breasts offer just as much flavor while providing a good source of protein. Also, diced mushrooms cooked in oil provide great texture and crunch to any dish ultimately replacing the need for ground beef entirely.

Consider trying versatile foods that can be incorporated into Mexican cuisine dishes such as enchiladas, tacos, and burritos — all accommodating the likes of black beans rather than ground beef.

Can I freeze stroganoff once it’s cooked?

It is possible to freeze stroganoff after it has been cooked. Many people choose to do so because it allows them to have a prepared meal on hand that can be quickly reheated when they are in a hurry.

As with any frozen food item, some flavor and texture may be diminished compared to freshly-made stroganoff, but with careful planning, steps can be taken to mitigate the effects of freezing.

Care should be taken in how much liquid is added (as this can lead to increased icy texture) and if freezing for an extended period of time, adding preservatives or acidic components like lemon juice will help keep the dish’s flavor.

Freezing stroganoff can provide convenience and boost meal-time efficiency, as long as its effects are taken into consideration.

What other ingredients can I add to beef stroganoff?

Although beef stroganoff is usually made with savory ingredients such as beef and mushrooms, adding other ingredients to the dish can help to make it more interesting.

A variety of vegetables can be incorporated into the recipe, such as sliced onion or bell peppers. Dairy products can also add creaminess and flavor to the dish. Cream cheese, sour cream, and Greek yogurt are all popular choices.

For added texture, try adding cooked noodles or potatoes. Herbs and spices are an excellent way to introduce different flavors to beef stroganoff; some good options include paprika, garlic powder, oregano, parsley, and thyme.

Finally, a splash of white wine or stock towards the end of cooking helps to bring all the flavors together for a scrumptious meal!

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs of ground beef
  • 1 diced onion
  • 2 minced cloves of garlic
  • 6 cups of water or beef broth
  • 1 tsp of dry mustard
  • 1 T of worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp of black pepper
  • ¼ tsp of paprika
  • 1 package of egg noodles (16 ounces)
  • 1 package of cut up baby bella mushrooms (18 ounces)
  • 1 cup of sour cream

Instructions

Turn on the saute mode on your Instant Pot and let it heat until it's hot. Put in the ground beef and onions and cook until the meat is browned. Drain off the grease. Make certain to deglaze the pot by putting in water or beef broth and scraping the bottom with a wooden spoon. Once done, turn off the saute mode.

Add in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic, pepper, paprika, and dry mustard. Put the pasta on top and press it down into the liquid. Top this with the mushrooms. DO NOT STIR. (you can add some salt if needed)

Put on the lid to the Instant Pot and set the valve to sealing. Turn to "manual" and cook for 6 minutes. Once done, quick release the pressure when the cycle is completed.

Add in the sour cream and stir. Put on the lid and let the sauce absorb some.

Serve and top with chopped parsley.
