Unicorn Donuts Recipe

Once you mix the ingredients together to make the donuts, the fun of decorating is just waiting for them to cool! Who knew that it could be so simple to make homemade donuts look this good?!

I love that my kids let me still decorate donuts in a cute and fun way. I’m pretty much obsessed with unicorns so these donuts are ones that I’ll never stop making and sharing!

What is the best way to let these donuts cool down?

Putting them on a cooling rack will allow the airflow to cool them down quickly. Taking them out of the hot donut pan helps as well.

What is the best way to add on icing?

I like to use a piping bag but you can do whatever works best for you. I also like to have the donuts on wax paper so that they don’t stick and take off any of the icings.

Unicorn Donuts Recipe

Yield: 12 mini donuts

Start off the day with these tasty homemade donuts!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 1 T of sugar
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1/4 cup of apple sauce
  • 2 cups of coconut milk
  • 1 T of white vinegar
  • 2 T of vegetable oil

To make the Icing:

  • Vegan White Chocolate

Unicorn Decorating Ingredients:

  • Starburst, 12 in each color
  • Black GEL icing

Instructions

Preheat the mini donut maker. (if using a donut pan, preheat to 350 degrees)

Mix the coconut milk and vinegar. Set the bowl aside.

Mix the soda, salt, sugar, and flour in a different bowl. Set aside.

Mix in the apple sauce and the oil with the milk bowl mixture.

Add the mixes together and mix until smooth.

Spoon into the donut pan or donut maker. (if baking in the oven, bake for 8 minutes)

Remove from maker or oven once browned. Set aside and let cool.

Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl according to the directions on the package.

Dip the cooled donuts into the chocolate. Set aside. You can put them in the fridge for 10 minutes to speed up the setting process.

Unwrap the Starburst, work one at a time for about 5 seconds.

Tear the candy in half and mash it into a tube by rolling it.

Fold the rolled tube in half.

Mash one end of the tube in between 2 fingers and twist into a slight cone to make the horn.

Put on the donut gently. Repeat for every donut.

Unwrap a pink Starburst and microwave for 5 seconds on work in your hands to loosen up.

Tear in half and mash into a long tube.

Roll into a spiral, making the flower.

Mush onto the donut, at the bottom of the unicorn horn.

Repeat for each donut.

Repeat and make orange and red flowers.

Use the gel icing and draw on the eyes and eyelashes.

Serve or put in the fridge for later.
