I have always been a big fan of puppy chow. So much so that I make it all year long. Why limit your taste buds on something this good when you don’t have to?

Valentine Heart Candy Puppy Chow

I know it will be a good recipe when I don’t have to turn on my oven. Don’t get me wrong. I love baking, but having a sweet dessert that I can make without other stresses is refreshing.

My boys enjoy puppy chow because it’s great to grab and eat. It’s also fun to make for class parties or add to their school lunch boxes.

The other great aspect of this recipe is that there are a lot of different flavor notes. That means that each bite is going to taste unique and different!

Why is puppy chow called puppy chow?

There are many different theories as to why puppy chow has this name. Some are not as appetizing as others, but we’ll review some of the most common.

Some people say that puppy chow dessert reminds them of puppy food. I would say that this is based on looks only, as this isn’t suitable for the pups!

Because the common reasons for naming it this don’t appeal to some, this might be why you hear it referred to as “muddy buddies” instead.

How do you store puppy chow?

The best way to store puppy chow is in an airtight container. This will keep it fresh and ready to enjoy easily.

You can keep the puppy chow at room temperature without issue. If you want to store it in the fridge, be sure that the container has a lid that seals tightly so that it doesn’t take on other scents and smells from the foods.

A sealable bag is also a great option. This is a simple solution for breaking it into serving sizes and sending for lunches, snacks, and more.

I like to get the bags with a double seal just so that I know the puppy chow mixture won’t pour out at any point.
