Homemade Turtles Candy Recipe (with bacon!)

This Homemade Turtles Candy Recipe is one of my favorite chocolate turtles recipe to make! I love the taste of the pecan clusters covered with the melted chocolate. I can’t tell you how perfectly balanced the sweet and salty flavoring of this turtle candy recipe is. You’re just going to have to try and make it all for yourself!

Homemade Turtles Candy Recipe

I will tell you that melting the caramel and chocolate chips is the longest part of this recipe. As long as you make certain that the mixtures aren’t too hot, the kids can have a blast creating and putting them all together!

We make this every year during the holidays and my boys still love it! If you’re wanting to have a fun candy tradition in your house, this simple recipe might be a great option to have!

How do you store turtle candy?

Just take them off the baking sheet and put them into an airtight container. You don’t have to do anything special or overly difficult, which is so nice!

You can also keep them at room temperature, too!

What are some fun variations to try for this recipe?

You can try anything that you want! Toasted pecans could be a fun flavor that goes great and you can easily change up the chocolate chips to be dark chocolate as well. Sprinkle on some sea salt if you do that!

Homemade Turtles Candy Recipe

Yield: 24 candies
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

This is a wonderful way to make homemade candy!

Ingredients

  • 120 pecan halves, about 3½ cups
  • 6 pieces of cooked and crumbled bacon 
  • 12 ounces of chocolate chips 
  • 24  square waffle pretzels
  • 1 bag of caramel squares

Instructions

Put the pretzels and pecans on parchment paper. There need to be 5 pecans halves for each pretzel.

Put the caramel and milk in a microwave safe cup and heat in 15-second intervals until melted. Stir in between.

Drop a bit of the melted caramel onto the pretzel square and overlap the pecans pieces that you've laid to be the head and legs. Let cool for about 35 minutes once done

Put the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and 1 T of water. Heat in short spurts and stir each time. DOn't overheat - just needs to be warm and melty and not hot. Drop in spoonfuls on the turtles and sprinkle the bacon on top.

Let cool and enjoy!
