Are all smoothie recipes healthy?
Smoothies have become a go-to for health-conscious individuals, and for good reason: they are a delicious and convenient way to pack in various nutrients. However, not all smoothie recipes are created equal regarding being healthy.
While many recipes feature a blend of fiber-rich fruits, vegetables, and protein sources, some can be loaded with added sugars and lack the necessary nutrients to fuel the body.
It’s essential to be mindful of the ingredients used in smoothies and to opt for those that are nutrient-dense and low in added sugars.
Choosing the right ingredients can make smoothies a healthy addition to any diet.

Ingredients
- 2 large bananas, frozen and chunked
- 1 cup of frozen strawberries
- 1 cup of frozen raspberries
- 2 large red beets, roasted, peeled, and chopped
- 2 cups of almond milk, unsweetened
- 6-8 ice cubes
- 1 Tbsp of chia seeds
- Optional: 4 sprigs fresh mint, for garnish
Instructions
- Add the bananas, berries, beets, almond milk, and ice cubes into a blender. Cover and blend on high until smooth and creamy. This will take about 2 minutes.
- If you need to, add a little water if it's too thick.
- Divide the mixture into four glasses and add some chia seeds on top. Garnish with mint if you want. Serve asap.
Notes
Water can be used to cut calories. It will also give the drink a brighter red color.
Raw beets can also be used in this recipe, but roasted beets will result in a softer and smoother texture for the smoothie.
