How do I know if the fish is overbaked?

Overbaked fish can be challenging to identify at first glance, as the texture and flavor of overcooked fish are often similar to adequately cooked fish. The critical difference lies in the flakiness.

It is likely overbaked if the fish is mushy and dry. Many people also find that the fish takes on an unpleasant rubbery texture when overcooked.

To prevent this from happening, it is generally recommended to cook until lightly browned, and an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit has been reached.

In addition, observe the cooking method to ensure it does not become too hot for the fish; this is particularly important for baking and roasting, which require higher temperatures.

Finally, checking for a slight translucency near the thickest part of the fillet can be helpful when assessing whether or not a piece of fish has been sufficiently cooked.
