Baked Parmesan Tomatoes Recipe

Sharing is caring!

This Baked Parmesan Tomatoes Recipe is the perfect way to use those ripe tomatoes! I love eating this simple recipe when the tomatoes are straight from the garden! Easy dinner recipes like this are delicious and refreshing.

All you need are a few simple ingredients to get started! It’s a great recipe for a light dinner or quick lunch, or it can also be a simple side dish.

I grew up eating garden-fresh tomatoes, and to say I’m obsessed with their rich flavor is an understatement. While there is nothing wrong with store-bought tomatoes, I just love and crave that ripeness from the garden!

Once you add the ingredients to the halved tomatoes, you’re well on your way to being almost finished and ready to eat! The last step is to pop them into the oven, and it’s a quick one at that.

You can even change up the type of tomato used for this recipe to see how unique and flavorful tomato varieties can be. There are always great options when it comes to adding this fruit (yes—fruit, LOL) to your dinner or lunch plans.

The next time you have tomatoes that need to be used up, keep this easy-baked recipe handy. You’ll be shocked at how good it is!

Does baking tomatoes soften the skin?

Baking tomatoes does soften their skin. When you expose tomatoes to heat in an oven, the cells within the skin break down, making it easier to peel away. This process not only enhances the texture but also intensifies the flavor, giving your dishes a richer taste.

Whether you’re preparing a sauce, soup, or a roasted vegetable medley, baking provides a simple way to incorporate tender, flavorful tomatoes without the hassle of tough skins.

How do I know when tomatoes are ripe?

Knowing when tomatoes are ripe is key to enjoying their full flavor and nutritional benefits. Look for a uniform color that matches the tomato variety—vibrant red, deep yellow, or rich orange.

The skin should be smooth and glossy, without green patches near the stem. Gently squeeze the tomato; a ripe one will yield slightly to pressure but still feel firm.

Finally, trust your nose—a ripe tomato will give off a sweet, earthy aroma, signaling it’s ready to be picked and savored.

I have been sharing these yummy tomatoes in many of my cooking classes. I like your addition of bacon salt...should add a new dimension to the flavors. Often I use a Mediterranean seasoning...it's good, too. It's a wonderful recipe to prepare on a Silpat. Jane
