They range from fried catfish, biscuits and chocolate gravy, possum pie, and hushpuppies.

Arkansas has a Creole influence and they love big flavors. You’ll find lots of fried dishes, fish, and a fun local take on biscuits and gravy.

Fried Catfish

Fried catfish can be found at almost any restaurant in Arkansas. It’s a local specialty you don’t want to miss. 

Chicken Fried Steak

Cooks coat a thin piece of steak in a thick layer of breading and then fry it to create chicken fried steak. Finally, they serve it with gravy, green beans, and corn on the cob.

Fried Okra

Okra is a green vegetable that’s popular in the southern states. Arkansans like to fry it up and munch on them as an appetizer. 

Biscuits

Biscuits are a staple in Arkansas. They are commonly served with sausage gravy but can also be served with chocolate gravy. 

Chocolate Gravy

Chocolate gravy is a specialty in Arkansas that the locals love! Be sure to try this fun take on a savory gravy served over biscuits.

Possum Pie

Possum pie is a wonderfully creamy chocolate and cream cheese layered pie. The crust is made out of shortbread. This dessert is a must-try!

Cheese Dip

Cheese dips of all kinds are a popular side dish at backyard barbeques and as appetizers in restaurants. 

Hand Pies

Hand pies are made by shaping a small square of pie dough and folding it over apple or cherry filling in the shape of a triangle. They are baked until golden brown and are perfect as handheld sweet snacks or desserts for any occasion. 

Hush Puppies

Hush Puppies are a fried cornmeal batter that’s crispy and golden on the outside and soft on the inside. They are great to pop in your mouth as a snack or before a meal.
