This simple dessert is really a great recipe and is perfect for a hot summer day or makes a unique and delicious birthday cake as well. You can even add more yumminess to it with some crushed Oreos and hot fudge sauce!
The top of the cake is loaded with so much sweetness while the other layers have so much yummy goodness, too. Once you start, you’re not going to be able to stop! I love that the prep for this recipe takes just 15 minutes or so! (maybe 20 minutes if you’re a snacker like I am!)

Is there a way to keep the ice cream from sticking to the prepared pans?
Typical cake recipe would have you making certain that you greased and floured the cake pan but this is no typical cake. For this recipe, just know that it’s going to stick to the pan. The good news is that it’s just ice cream so it’s going to mean that clean up is a total breeze.

What toppings go well with ice cream cake?
This is totally up to you! I love to top with melted chocolate but you can have fun and try a lot of options. Mini chocolate chips and even crushed cookies would be a delicious add-on as well. Once you add your toppings to the top layer, it’s ready to serve!

- 1 chocolate cake mix plus ingredients on box
- 1 slightly softened quart chocolate ice cream
- 1 (8 ounce) thawed package of frozen whipped topping
- ~ ¼ cup of chocolate syrup
Bake the cake according to the directions. Make certain to make them into two 8X9 inch pans. Let cool.
Put one cake on the bottom of the springform pan. Top with 1/2 of the ice cream and spread it out to be even.
Add the second layer of cake and press down. Add on the final layer of ice cream and wrap the pan in plastic wrap. Put in the freezer until solid.
Warm a knife by running under hot water and then wipe it dry. Use that warm knife to cut around the edges of the springform pan.
Remove the sides of the springform pan.
Add whipped topping to the top.
Drizzle with chocolate syrup.
Freeze until you're ready to eat. For easier slicing, let it rest for 10 minutes at room temperature.
