We usually keep a box of cake mix or two in our pantry at all times. I love the taste of homemade cakes, but cake mix is just so convenient! It’s also a great way to introduce kids to baking, since they can do most of the work on their own. Just wait until you see this massive list of yummy cookie recipes!
Did you know, though, that you can use cake mix to make other desserts, including cookies? And there are a TON of ways to do it!

What is the best way to check if cookies are done baking?
To ensure cookies are properly baked and achieve the desired texture, it is important to evaluate their doneness.
The best way to check if cookies are done baking is by pressing lightly on the center of a cookie with your finger or a spoon. If the cookie has some give and does not seem moist, then all signs point that it is fully cooked.
If, however, the cookie still looks too soft in the center, then it should probably be left in the oven for a few more minutes.
Additionally, another way to determine whether or not cookies are finished baking is by feeling for firmness around the edges; once its edges feel firm, that means that the cookie has completed its time in the oven.
What is the best flavor of cake mix to make cookies?
For those looking to make cookies using a cake mix, among the most popular and readily available flavors is chocolate.
Chocolate cake mixes are versatile in that they can be used to create various cookie recipes, from supremely sweet fudge cookies with dense, flavorful centers to light and fluffy brownie-like offerings.
Many opt instead for a devil’s food or red velvet cake mix – both providing deliciously intense flavors perfect for holiday baking or occasions requiring something extra special.
Though convenient, however, all cake mixes should still be combined with additional ingredients before baking – if only to ensure the cookies rise properly and obtain their desired consistency.
How do I store baked cookies?
Baked cookies can be stored in airtight containers or zipper-lock plastic bags. Opting for opaque packaging is best since it helps to keep light, dust, and other airborne contaminants out.
Additionally, if storing multiple flavors of cookies together, it may be beneficial to place parchment paper between the layers; not only will this help keep the flavors separate, but moisture and oils from the cookies will also not transfer.
For those living in areas with high humidity, storing baked cookies in the refrigerator or freezer is recommended, as the colder temperatures help to prevent spoilage.
Cookies should be removed from cold storage two hours before eating, as condensation that builds up during thawing can potentially affect their texture and taste.
What are some fun toppings for cookies?
Decorating cookies with creative and fun toppings can add a delightful twist to any cookie recipe. Several ingredients make exciting additions to cookie designs.
Candies come in various shapes and sizes, perfect for enhancing the texture and flavor of cookies. Sprinkles are great for brightening up any batch and are ideal for decorating holiday-themed creations or baked treats for special occasions.
Nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pecans, and peanuts can also be used to create interesting flavor combinations and unique designs.
Fruits such as cherries, currants, cranberries, or raisins can provide a touch of sweetness and vibrant color when added to cookie mixes.
For those who enjoy something chocolatey, chocolate chips or chunks also offer an enjoyable depth of flavor that will please all cookie fans.
Experimenting with different toppings is a wonderful way to create tasty masterpieces in the kitchen!
