How do you know when cupcakes are done baking in the oven?

You never want to overcook a cupcake – ever! This is where they start to dry out and become hard as rocks. Thankfully it’s super simple to know when a cupcake is done baking. All you need is a toothpick ( a clean one) and once the timer has gone off indicating that they’re done baking, just insert the toothpick and pull it out.

If it’s clean, the cupcakes are done in the oven and ready to be removed. If there is batter on the cupcakes, they need a few more minutes of time to bake.

Ensuring safety while baking and decorating cupcakes is essential for a successful and enjoyable experience.

Focusing on baking safety, ingredient handling, and kitchen hygiene can prevent accidents and ensure delicious results.

Proper handling of ingredients and tools is key to maintaining a safe baking environment. Check ingredient freshness, keep your workspace clean, and use baking tools correctly to guarantee safe and tasty cupcakes.

  • Verify the freshness of all baking ingredients.
  • Maintain a clean workspace to prevent contamination.
  • Use sharp tools like knives and mixers with caution.
  • Store ingredients properly to prevent spoilage.
  • Follow baking instructions carefully to avoid mishaps.

Can you freeze baked cupcakes?

You can but make certain that you add them to the freezer without frosting or fondant. Those two items don’t freeze overly well and can always be added to the cupcakes once you unthaw them and want to make them.

Yield: 12 cupcakes

These cake mix cupcakes are fast and simple and adorable!

Ingredients

  • box of cake mix - any flavor (if you use the full box of cake mix, you'll actually get 24 cupcakes instead of 12 but this recipe was halved to get 12 cupcakes)
  • 1 cup of confectioners’ sugar
  • 1-2 T of milk
  • 4-6 ounces of white fondant
  • cookie cutter, 2 inches in size
  • 2-3 ounces of blue fondant
  • toothpick
  • Green frosting

Instructions

Once the cupcakes are done baking, let them cool. While they are cooling, it's time to make the frosting.

Put the sugar, butter, and milk into a bowl.

Beat them with a mixer starting on low and increasing to high.

Once semi-stiff peaks form, the buttercream is ready.

Put it into a piping bag with a round icing tip.

Next, roll out the white fondant to be 1/4 inch thick.

Take the round cookie cutter and cut out 12 circles.

Add a bit of the buttercream to the back of the circles and stick them on top of each cupcake.

To make the bowtie, roll out 2 spheres of blue fondant about 1/2 inch each.

Flatten them a little bit to make them look like a teardrop.

Lay them side by side with the points facing each other.

Take a tiny bit of the blue fondant and flatten it. Put that in the middle of the two other teardrop shapes.

Grab a toothpick and make two lines on each side of the bowtie.

Use the toothpick to spread the buttercream on the back of the bowtie and then put it in the middle of the cupcake.

Use a Wilson #4 tip to add the green frosting to decorate. Enjoy!
