These green wreaths will be the star of your Christmas dessert board because they’re cute and irresistible! The familiar snap and crackle of Rice Krispies combined with gooey marshmallows create a treat that no one can resist.
As a bonus, the red candy bow and yellow “lights” make these wreaths picture-perfect for holiday gatherings.

These wreaths are wonderfully chewy with just the right amount of crunch. The vibrant green color and festive decorations make them an instant hit at any holiday party!
Rice Krispie Wreaths Recipe
Making these wreaths is like making edible Christmas decorations! When marshmallows melt, they form a silky smooth mixture that coats every piece of crispy rice. I love watching the transformation as the green food coloring swirls through, creating that perfect festive shade.
But the real fun starts when decorating these wreaths. Each red candy bow adds a sweet touch, while the yellow dots sparkle like tiny Christmas lights. My kids always fight over who gets to add the finishing touches!
Working with the Rice Krispies mixture is surprisingly simple. It’s best to move quickly while it’s still warm and pliable. Spraying my hands with cooking spray helps prevent sticking when shaping the wreaths.
These treats strike the perfect balance between festive and familiar. Everyone recognizes the classic rice krispie taste they love, but the holiday shape and decorations make them extra special.

Why don’t my Rice Krispies treats stay soft?
Getting the perfect texture in Rice Krispie treats can be tricky! High heat is often the culprit behind hard treats, which can cause the marshmallows to caramelize too much. I always melt my marshmallows over medium-low heat, stirring constantly.
Fresh ingredients make a huge difference. Old marshmallows can lead to dry, hard treats. I always check my marshmallow bag’s expiration date and ensure it’s sealed properly. The butter ratio matters, too—too much makes them fall apart, and too little makes them hard.
My favorite trick is adding a splash of vanilla extract and melting most marshmallows first. Then, I fold in a few whole marshmallows at the end. This creates pockets of extra gooeyness that keep the treats soft longer!

How do I keep my wreaths perfectly round?
The secret to perfectly shaped wreaths lies in timing and technique! Work quickly while the mixture is still warm and pliable. Doing that makes shaping much more effortless.
Using the right tools makes all the difference. I always use two different-sized cookie cutters: one for the outer circle and a smaller one for the center hole. Make sure to press firmly and evenly when cutting.
If your wreaths start losing shape, pop them in the fridge for a few minutes to help them firm up and hold their shape better. Don’t leave them too long, or they might get too hard!

Rice Krispie Wreaths Recipe
Check out this fun holiday treat! Rice Krispie wreaths are festive - and delicious!
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp butter
- 40 marshmallows
- ¼ tsp green gel food coloring
- 6 cups rice cereal
- ½ cup red candy melts
- ½ cup yellow candy melts
Instructions
- Add wax paper to a baking sheet.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add marshmallows and stir until melted. Take the pan off the heat.
- Add gel food coloring to the melted mixture and stir.
- Add the cereal and fold until all ingredients are mixed.
- Spread the mixture into the prepared pan, even it out using a rubber spatula, and shape it into 8X10 inches.
- Let the mixture set for about 10 minutes.
- Cut a circle cookie cutter and cut 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Use a different cookie cutter, and cut 3/4 inch in diameter in the middle of the treat.
- Add the red candy to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, mixing in between.
- Scoop the melted candy into a piping bag and pipe a red bow on the bottom of the treats. You can make the bow shape by piping out two circles attached together and then piping two lines in the middle.
- Melt the yellow candy the same as the red. Put it into a different piping bag and add little yellow dots on the treats.
- Let the wreaths set, then serve!
