Frito Pie Recipe

The saltiness of the corn chips and the heartiness of the beans keep me coming back for more. I could eat this entire recipe alone if I didn’t have other mouths to feed.

My boys think of this as a simple meal idea, and I agree. It’s great for any time of the year, but I will say that a bowl of this on a cold winter night does hit the spot.

Make sure you ask everyone what toppings they like before serving them up. That way, you can enjoy trying new ingredients and flavors as well!

Is Frito pie just a Texas thing?

Frito pie is a beloved dish within Texas culture, but it has also become a popular menu item across the United States. The dish consists of Fritos corn chips, topped with chili, cheese, and various other toppings.

Some believe that Frito pie was first created in the Lone Star State, while others argue that it originated in Mexico.

Regardless of its origins, Frito pie’s popularity has spread beyond Texas, with many restaurants and home cooks offering their own unique twists on the classic dish.

While it may have started as a regional specialty, Frito pie has now become a beloved comfort food enjoyed throughout the country.

What’s the difference between a walking taco and a Frito pie?

When it comes to portable snacks, the walking taco and Frito pie are two popular options. However, they do have distinct differences.

A walking taco is a mixture of taco ingredients, such as seasoned ground beef, cheese, lettuce, and salsa, served in a bag of crushed-up corn chips that can be eaten on the go.

On the other hand, a Frito pie is a layered dish made up of Fritos corn chips, chili, cheese, and other toppings. It’s baked in the oven or cooked on the stove and is typically served hot.

While both dishes use corn chips as a base, the walking taco is a more relaxed and portable snack, while the Frito pie is a hearty meal that requires utensils to eat.

Overall, choosing between the two depends on personal preference and the occasion.

We do something similar except ours is with a large container of store bought salsa, would probably work with a pasta sauce also. Kids love it!!
