My boys love making snack boards because they nibble as we’re making them. (and to be honest, so am I!) There’s nothing wrong with getting a little bit of snacking before presenting and sharing with others.

The most popular dip spread to be seen on charcuterie boards across the world is undoubtedly hummus.

Originating in the Middle East and strongly associated with Mediterranean cuisine, this chickpea-based dip can now be found in markets all around the globe.

Hummus is an excellent accompaniment to these boards due to its versatility and wide range of ingredients, making it a delicious and appealing addition to the mix of salted meats, cheeses, and sweet fruits arranged appetizingly for guests.

Its popularity has only grown over time as the appreciation for various styles of charcuterie increases, and it does not look like hummus will leave these boards anytime soon.

Can I make a charcuterie board in advance?

The answer to whether one can make a charcuterie board in advance depends on the ingredients of the specific board.

Items such as cheeses, wood-fired bread, and cold cuts are shelf-stable and can be prepared before guests arrive.

However, perishable items, such as cured meats, fresh fruits, and vegetables, should not be prepared more than 2 hours before serving to maintain optimal taste.

For this simple pretzel board recipe, you can easily prep it ahead of time and make it so that it’s ready for snacking whenever you’re ready.
