Fun Unicorn Ideas for Kids:

Can I use food coloring or pink food spray in this recipe?

Since I haven’t used them, I can’t recommend them. In order to get that “unicorn look”, using the candy melts in the recipe will result in the best results.

All you have to do is add the candy melts and toss the popcorn get that look. Easy peasy, right? Don’t forget to add sprinkles let dry!

Can you use plain bagged popcorn for this recipe?

If you wanted to use it, you could. Just know that it may change the taste and outcome a bit. You can use bagged popcorn for ease if you want. Serve in a large bowl or a small microwave safe bowl.

If your candy melts harden before you use them, can you reheat the candy melts in a small microwave bowl?

Yes, if you melt them and the melted candy rehardens, you can simply add them back into the microwave and melt again. It shouldn’t affect the taste or texture at all.

A tiny dab of coconut oil will help make the candies to be more smooth and easier to handle.

What’s the difference between popcorn and gourmet popcorn?

Popcorn and gourmet popcorn may sound like the same thing, but they have a few key differences. For one, gourmet popcorn comes in a wider range of flavors that go beyond the traditional butter and salt.

Other flavors can include chocolate, caramel, and even spicy flavors.

Additionally, gourmet popcorn is often made with higher-quality ingredients, such as non-GMO corn and real butter instead of artificial flavorings.

While regular popcorn is an affordable and satisfying snack, gourmet popcorn provides a more indulgent and decadent option for those looking to treat themselves.

How do you make homemade popcorn fluffier?

If you’re tired of popcorn kernels that seem to be as hard as rocks and barely expand, there are some simple tweaks you can try to make your homemade popcorn fluffier.

Start by ensuring that your kernels are fresh and haven’t been exposed to moisture, which can make them harder to pop. You can also try adding a little bit more oil or butter to your pot or air popper to help the kernels pop more evenly.

Another trick is to let your popcorn sit with the lid off for a few minutes after popping to allow some of the steam to escape, which can make it fluffier and less soggy.

Give these tips a try, and you’ll be enjoying big, fluffy bowls of homemade popcorn in no time!

Why did my popcorn turn out chewy?

If you find yourself chewing on tough, rubbery kernels instead of enjoying a bowl of fluffy popcorn, there are a few possible reasons why this happened.

Firstly, you might have inadvertently overheated the popcorn in the microwaves or over the stove. This can cause the kernels to become tough and chewy, instead of bursting into tasty fluffy pieces.

Additionally, it is possible that you didn’t store your popcorn in the right conditions, which can cause it to absorb moisture and lose its crisp texture.

Lastly, if you kept your popcorn kernels for too long before popping them, the natural oils inside them might have gone rancid and caused them to turn chewy instead of crispy.

By understanding these potential factors, you can ensure that your next batch of popcorn turns out light and fluffy, instead of unpleasantly chewy.

What are unpopped popcorn kernels called?

You may have noticed that when you microwave or air-pop popcorn, there are always a few stubborn kernels that refuse to pop.

These are known as unpopped popcorn kernels, but there’s actually a fancier term: “old maids.” That’s right, those kernels that stay hard and unpopped are the old maids of the popcorn world.

It may seem like a minor detail, but knowing the terminology can impress your friends at your next movie night.

So, next time you come across a bag of popcorn with some stubborn old maids, you’ll know exactly what to call them.

Why is gourmet popcorn so round?

Gourmet popcorn has become a popular snack among food enthusiasts, and it’s no secret that it’s round in shape. But have you ever asked yourself why this is the case? The answer lies in how the gourmet popcorn is prepared.

Gourmet popcorn is often made using mushroom kernels, which naturally have a rounder shape than traditional kernels.

So, if you’ve ever wondered why your favorite gourmet popcorn is always so perfectly round, now you know.

Instructions

Steps 1-3: Pre-heat a large pan on medium high heat. Add the oil, popcorn and salt. After about 20 seconds, add the popcorn kernels and put the lid on the pot. Shake the pot intermittently while popping. About halfway through, turn off the heat and allow the popping to stop.

Step 4: In a 9 x 13 pan, spread a thin layer of popcorn.

Step 5: Place your first cup of candy melts in the microwave. Heat at medium for 30 seconds. Stir and repeat until completely melted. If it is too thick to drizzle, add a few drops of the popcorn oil and melt.

Step 6: Drizzle the first candy melts mixture over the popcorn.

Step 7: Place your second cup of candy melts in the microwave. Heat at medium for 30 seconds. Stir and repeat until completely melted. If it is too thick to drizzle, add a few drops of the popcorn oil and melt.

Step 8: Drizzle the second candy melts mixture over the popcorn.

Step 9: Sprinkle the confetti sprinkles and unicorn horn candies over the popcorn.

Step 10: Spread another layer of popcorn in the pan.

Step 11: Place your third cup of candy melts in the microwave. Heat at medium for 30 seconds. Stir and repeat until completely melted. If it is too thick to drizzle, add a few drops of the popcorn oil and melt.

Steps 12: Drizzle third candy melts mixture over the popcorn.

Step 13: Place your fourth cup of candy melts in the microwave. Heat at medium for 30 seconds. Stir and repeat until completely melted. If it is too thick to drizzle, add a few drops of the popcorn oil and melt.

Step 14: Drizzle fourth candy melts mixture over the popcorn.

Step 15: Sprinkle the confetti sprinkles and unicorn horn candies over the popcorn.

Serve in fun containers. If you have extra sprinkles, add more!
