Doubling a homemade cookie recipe might seem straightforward but can present unexpected challenges. While it’s tempting to double each ingredient simply, baking is a precise science where small deviations can significantly impact the final product.

For example, doubling the baking soda or powder can lead to cookies that spread too much or have an off-taste. The texture can be affected if the butter and sugar are not properly creamed together in larger quantities.

To ensure your doubled batch of cookies turns out perfectly, consider using a kitchen scale for more accurate measurements and adjusting your baking time, as a larger quantity of dough may require a few extra minutes in the oven.

What is the best way to store baked cookies?

When storing baked cookies, the goal is to preserve their fresh-out-of-the-oven taste and texture. The best way to achieve this is by allowing the cookies to cool completely before storage.

Once cooled, place them in an airtight container, separating layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking. If you’re dealing with different cookies, store each type separately to maintain their unique flavors and textures.

For longer storage, consider freezing the cookies—just ensure they’re well-wrapped in plastic wrap and then placed in a resealable freezer bag. This will keep them delicious for up to three months.

Before serving, simply thaw at room temperature, and they’ll taste as good as the day you baked them.
