How do I store popped popcorn so it doesn’t get stale?

Popcorn is a go-to snack for movie nights, game nights, or whenever you need something to munch on. But once you’ve popped a big bowl, what’s the best way to store those fluffy kernels so they stay fresh and crunchy?

The key is to let the popcorn cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container.

Moisture is the enemy of crisp popcorn, so ensure the container is dry and free of residual moisture. A resealable plastic bag or airtight container with a lid will do the trick.

With these tips, you can enjoy your popcorn at its best for days.

This Mermaid Popcorn Recipe is the perfect snack. It's a dessert and a snack in one!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup popcorn kernels
  • ½ cup melted salted butter
  • 1 ½ cups blue white chocolate melting chips
  • Mermaid sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Add 1/2 cup of the butter into a pot and then add 1 kernel of popcorn. Turn the stove to medium heat until that one kernel pops, and then turn to medium-high heat.
  2. Add the rest of the kernels and keep the heat on medium. Make sure to put the lid on top! It will take a few moments for the kernels to start popping.
  3. As soon as they start popping rapidly, shake the pan side to side so that the kernels move about that aren't popped so can pop.
  4. Once the popping slows, turn off the heat and shake.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pour the popcorn on the baking sheet. Spread out.
  6. Melt the blue melting chocolate chips in the microwave based on the bag directions.
  7. Pour the melted chocolate into a plastic bag and snip off the corner.
  8. Drizzle the blue chocolate over the top of the popcorn and add the mermaid sprinkles.
  9. Put the pan in the fridge or freeze it for 10 minutes to harden.
  10. Break the popcorn into pieces and enjoy.
