The next time you need to make up something quickly to help everyone’s sweet tooth in the house, take a look at this easy treat. The Chex cereal’s crunchiness, paired with the smooth and creamy chocolate coating, keeps everyone coming back for more.

My boys love when we make puppy chow because they can sneak pieces as they walk past the kitchen. I have to admit that I’m guilty of this, too, because it’s just so darn addictive!

How do I keep puppy chow fresh?

The last thing that you want to have to happen is to have your batch of homemade puppy chow, not stay fresh! The good news is that you can easily keep it airtight and fresh!

Once the puppy chow cools down, it’s ready to store in a sealable bag or container. A bag makes it simple to take with you for snacking on the go.

You can also store it in an airtight container at room temperature. This doesn’t have to be stored in a cool place because it doesn’t have any ingredients that need to be kept in the fridge.

This is where the fun really starts! There are a ton of great ingredients that you can add to puppy chow! Think outside the box and go for it!

Some of the more popular ingredients will be sprinkles, chocolate chips, peanuts, walnuts, almonds, coconut flakes, and even M&M’s.

Why are my Muddy Buddies soggy?

When it comes to snacking, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as Muddy Buddies. That is, until they end up being soggy. But fear not, there are a few reasons as to why this might be happening.

First and foremost, it could be due to the humidity levels in your home or wherever you’re storing the Muddy Buddies.

Secondly, if the cereal used in your recipe was not fully coated in the chocolate and peanut butter mixture, it could lead to fogginess.

Lastly, make sure to store your Muddy Buddies in an airtight container to prevent any moisture from seeping in.

By taking these precautions, you can ensure that your Muddy Buddies stay crunchy and delicious every time you indulge in this classic treat.

Why did my puppy chow get stale?

It’s always a bummer when you go to enjoy a tasty snack like puppy chow, only to find it has gone stale. So why does this happen? There are a few factors that can contribute to stale puppy chow.

One possibility is that it was not stored properly. Exposure to air and moisture can cause the snack to lose its crispy texture.

Another possible culprit is the ingredients themselves. If the cereal used in the recipe is already past its prime or if the other ingredients are not fresh, the end result is more likely to become stale quickly.

Finally, it’s also possible that the puppy chow was left out for too long before being fully consumed. While it may still be safe to eat, allowing the snack to sit out for extended periods of time can make it lose its freshness.

Is there a difference between confectioners sugar and powdered sugar?

If you’re someone who enjoys baking, you may have found yourself wondering whether confectioners sugar and powdered sugar are the same thing. The answer is yes and no.

While they are both types of sugar that have been ground into a fine powder, confectioners sugar also contains a small amount of cornstarch to prevent caking. This extra ingredient means that confectioners sugar is often used in recipes for frostings, glazes, and other decorative applications.

On the other hand, powdered sugar without cornstarch is typically used for dusting over baked goods or mixing into whipped cream.

So, while the two types of sugar are similar, their subtle differences can impact the outcome of your baked goods or dessert creations.

Does powdered sugar go bad?

The good news is that powdered sugar has a long shelf life and, if stored correctly, can last for years without spoiling. Still, it is essential to inspect the sugar’s texture and aroma before using it in any recipe.

If there are any clumps or off smells, it may be time to toss it out and stock up on a fresh container.

Overall, as long as you store your powdered sugar in a cool, dry place, it should remain fresh for an extended period, ensuring your frosting and baked goods come out perfectly every time.

  • 1 cup of Powdered Icing Sugar
  • 1 ounce of Dehydrated Strawberries
  • 2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
  • 3 1/2 cups of Chex cereal
  • 1/2 cup Red or Pink Candy Melts
  • 1/2 cup Chocolate Chips
  • 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil or Shortening, optional

Instructions

Divide the powdered sugar into a gallon-sized bag.

Add cocoa powder to one bag, shake it to combine, and then set aside.

Put the dehydrated strawberries in a blender and break them down into a powder. This will take about 1 minute.

Put the powder into the 2nd ziptop, shake, and set it aside.

Divide the Chex into two bowls, and set aside.

Put the red/pink candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl and melt in 25-second increments. Sit and reheat. Add a tsp of coconut oil if needed to help loosen up the candy melts.

Put the cereal into the bag with the strawberry powder icing sugar, seal, and shake to coat the cereal with the sugar.

Pour the sugar-coated cereal onto a clean cookie sheet and set it aside.

Put the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl and melt in 25-second increments. Stir and reheat until melted. You may need to add coconut oil to loosen it.

Pour the melted chocolate chips over the Chex cereal and stir until it's coated.

Put the cereal into the bag with the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, seal, and shake to coat.

Pour the cereal onto the baking sheet with the strawberry and let set for 1 hour.

I made these and they came out great but I had a lot of chocolate and strawberry powder sugar mix left over. So I just recommend using more cereal and chocolate so there's no left over flavor powder.

Delighted to hear you enjoyed the Chocolate Strawberry Muddy Buddies recipe! Regarding the leftover powder mix, it's purposely in excess to ensure every piece of cereal gets a good coating when shaken together. However, your suggestion is noted and it's great for those who prefer a stronger flavor by adding more cereal and chocolate. Thanks for your valuable input and keep experimenting with our recipes!
