Irish Brownies Recipe

I’ve been making brownies my entire life. For some brownies, I mix and stir in a few ingredients, but not for this recipe. This recipe is one of my favorites to make during March.

I take my time because everyone who eats them raves about how good they are. I like to think it’s the fact that everything about them, from the brownie batter to the frosting, is homemade – and I think I’m right!

The boys will even help me out in the kitchen, especially regarding the frosting recipe. They know that if they help, they get the perks of licking the spatula and spoon!

How do I know when brownies are done baking?

Knowing when brownies are done baking can be a tricky process. The best method for determining doneness is to use a toothpick: insert the toothpick into the center of the pan of brownies, and if it comes out clean with no batter on it, then the brownies are done baking.

It is also helpful to check that the top of the brownies has formed a slightly crunchy texture and that they have started to pull away from the edges of the pan.

A final helpful test involves shaking the pan—if there is no jiggle in the center and all four corners show slight uniformity in shape, your brownies are most likely done baking.

With these tips, you can enjoy perfectly baked brownies every time.

How do I store leftover brownies?

Storing leftover brownies is an essential step in prolonging their life. While the precise steps for storing could vary slightly depending on the type of brownies, there are some general guidelines to follow.

For example, it is recommended that brownies be refrigerated if they will not be eaten within two days to inhibit bacterial growth.

Additionally, it is essential to ensure that individual pieces are wrapped tightly with plastic wrap or an air-tight container before refrigeration.

Doing so prevents moisture from entering the container and allows more airtime away from bacteria in the refrigerator.

Finally, ensure that when rewarming brownies, you do so at a low temperature to maintain their texture and prevent overbaking.

By following these steps and taking necessary precautions, storing leftover brownies can become a much simpler process where their flavor and texture remain unchanged.
