I’m a big fan of making Rice Krispies desserts because the process is simple. From start to finish, it’s as easy as following the written steps on the recipe card and patiently waiting for them to set up to eat.

Waiting is probably the hardest part of this entire recipe! Once I finish making them, I’m ready to eat them immediately. I’ve done that a time or two – and I will say that letting the treats cool and harden is key!

These are a fun addition to any kid’s party – or just a cute and edible option to have during the weekend. Since they’re on a stick, grabbing one as you run out the door is also great!

How do I keep Rice Krispies treats from sticking to the mixing bowl?

A common challenge when making Rice Krispies treats is preventing the sticky mixture from clinging to your mixing bowl. To avoid this, lightly coat the inside of the bowl with non-stick cooking spray or a thin layer of butter before adding your ingredients.

This simple step creates a barrier that helps the marshmallow and cereal blend smoothly without sticking, making mixing and cleanup a breeze. Enjoy your delicious, mess-free treats!

Can I make Rice Krispies treats without marshmallows?

You can, but I highly recommend following the recipe card and ingredients used for this recipe. For future recipes, you can swap out ingredients and try something new!

One popular alternative involves using honey and peanut butter to bind the cereal. Melt half a cup of peanut butter with half a cup of honey over low heat. Once the mixture is smooth, pour it over four cups of Rice Krispies and stir until well combined.

Press the mixture into a greased pan, allow it to cool, and cut into squares. This version eliminates marshmallows and adds a deliciously nutty flavor to your treats!

Ingredients

  • 6 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal
  • 1 16 ounce bag of Marshmallows
  • ¼ Cup of Butter
  • 1/2 Cup white candy melts
  • Electric blue food color

Instructions

  1. Add nonstick cooking spray to parchment paper. Set aside. Melt the marshmallows and butter in 30-second ingredients in the microwave in a mixing bowl. Stir after each time.
  2. Add 2 drops of the blue food coloring. Mix well.
  3. Pour in the cereal.
  4. Once mixed, pour the mixture onto the baking sheet and press down until it is even.
  5. Fold the mixture in half and press down once more to have a thicker base. (you can also use a second sprayed piece of parchment paper to lay on top, and use a rolling pin to flatten before folding)
  6. Let this set for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Cut out the paw prints using the cookie cutter.
  8. Melt the candy coating according to the package directions. Dip one end of the straw into the chocolate and then put it into the paw print.
  9. Add any leftover melted chocolate to a piping bag and make four circles and a triangle in the middle of the treats.
  10. Let them set in the fridge for 10 minutes to set.
