Blueberry Cream Cheese Coffee Cake Recipe

I prefer using fresh blueberries in this recipe because I love the sweetness that comes from the ripeness. There’s nothing like it!

Many people question the addition of sour cream, but it’s the secret to keeping baking recipes moist and not dried out!

My boys love when I make coffee cake, even though they don’t drink coffee. They use it as an excuse to eat the dessert – and I don’t mind sharing with them because that’s what I love to do!

Does a coffee cake have coffee in it?

Although the name ‘coffee cake’ may suggest otherwise, there is no coffee in coffee cake. Contrary to the name, coffee cake is a dessert typically served with or alongside coffee.

The sweet, crumbly cake has an identical texture and flavor, whether served with or without coffee.

It typically requires yeast as a raising agent and usually contains sugar, butter, eggs, and flour – and no actual added coffee!

Ultimately, the dish derives its name from the fact it is traditionally served as an accompaniment to a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

Why is my coffee cake dry?

Coffee cakes are renowned for their moist, fluffy texture. As a result, individuals may be surprised to find that the coffee cake they have prepared is dry.

If this is the case, the cause can likely be attributed to incorrect measurements or temperatures and the type of ingredients used during preparation.

For example, too much flour compared to other ingredients may cause the texture to become too dry.

Additionally, if cooked at an excessively high temperature or left in an oven for too long, it can result in less moisture content and, therefore, a drier product.

Lastly, certain types of milk and fat may contribute to a crumbly cake instead of one with desired moisture content.

One can achieve a deliciously moist coffee cake by addressing these potential issues throughout baking.

Can I eat a coffee cake without drinking coffee?

If you’re wondering if you can eat coffee cake without drinking coffee, the short answer is absolutely!

Coffee cake is an incredibly versatile dessert that pairs well with just about any beverage (or no beverage at all!).

The deep, buttery flavor of a moist, crumbly coffee cake makes it ideal as an accompaniment to a morning cup of joe, but it also stands alone as a fantastic dessert or snack.

With its subtle sweetness and hint of cinnamon or vanilla essence, this easy-to-make treat can be enjoyed without additional liquid refreshment.

So go ahead and indulge in a piece of rich and delicious coffee cake—no matter what you pair it with, you won’t regret it!

What is the best way to store leftover coffee cake?

The best way to store leftover coffee cake is in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

An airtight container will keep the cake fresh, tasty, and moist for several days at least.

If you cannot finish it in time, you can freeze the cake by wrapping it tightly in aluminum foil or plastic wrap.

This method is great for keeping storage time longer; however, freezing will cause a slight texture change. So if you would like to extend storage time without sacrificing texture, a better option may be to freeze individual slices for easy access later.

Overall, the key to optimal storage and preserving the deliciousness of your favorite coffee cake is using air-tight containers in both refrigeration and freezing methods.

What are fun toppings for coffee cake?

Coffee cake is a versatile dessert that pairs well with various topping options, whether breakfast or an afternoon snack; coffee cake can be made special with just the right topping.

Try adding crunchiness and flavor to your coffee cake using crumbled graham crackers or gingersnaps.

Chocolate chips, shredded coconut, or even a sprinkle of cinnamon adds extra sweetness and interest to the top of the cake.

If you’re feeling more daring, add some nuttiness with either chopped pecans or almonds, giving a good texture.

Apricot jam is another tasty option for coffee cake toppings; it adds a fruity element that refreshes any old-fashioned recipe.

With so many potential toppings for coffee cake, the possibilities are endless!
