Begin by mixing your yellow cake mix according to the package instructions. Don’t forget to add eggs and oil for that perfect moist texture! Once your batter is ready, gently fold in a generous sprinkle of Easter sprinkles for a festive, surprise-filled cupcake interior. - Fill the Cupcake Liners
Line your muffin tin with cupcake liners to make cleanup a breeze. Fill each liner about two-thirds of the way to allow for fluffiness and avoid overflowing. - Bake to Perfection
Pop the tray into a preheated oven and bake until the cupcakes are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Keep an eye on them—baking times may vary by oven! - Cool Completely
Once baked, transfer the cupcakes to a wire rack and allow them to cool completely. This step is key—frosting warm cupcakes can cause a melty mess. - Decorate and Have Fun
Spread or pipe vanilla frosting over each cupcake, then add your favorite Easter-themed sprinkles or candy on top. Get creative—this is where you can let your personality shine! - Serve and Enjoy
Place your decorated cupcakes on a platter for a festive presentation that’s bound to impress guests and delight little ones.

Cupcake Tips and Tricks
Prep Ingredients Ahead
Measure out all your ingredients before starting to streamline the baking process and avoid missed steps.
Use Room-Temperature Ingredients
Eggs and oil mix better into the batter when they’re at room temperature. This small tweak can make your cupcakes even fluffier!
Upgrade Your Frosting Game
If you want a bakery-style finish, use a piping bag with a star tip to frost your cupcakes. No piping bag? A plastic zip-top bag with the corner snipped works too!
Experiment with Fillings
For an extra surprise, cut a small hole in the center of each cupcake (before frosting) and fill it with candy, jam, or even a dollop of whipped cream.
Troubleshooting Easter Sprinkle Cupcakes
Uneven Cupcake Sizes
Use an ice cream scoop to distribute the batter evenly across your muffin tin for uniformly-sized cupcakes.
Cupcakes Sticking to Liners
If you find the cupcakes sticking to their liners, try using parchment paper liners—they release much more easily!
Flat or Sunken Cupcakes
This could mean you overmixed the batter. Mix just until the ingredients are combined to avoid deflating the batter.
Sprinkles Bleeding Into Batter
To keep your sprinkles from bleeding their colors into the batter, toss them in a bit of flour before adding them.
With these easy-to-follow steps, handy tips, and troubleshooting advice, you’re set up for success. Whether you’re baking for Easter or just for fun, these cupcakes are sure to be a springtime hit!

Customizing this Easter Sprinkle Cupcakes Recipe for Every Diet
Celebrating Easter with these cupcakes doesn’t mean leaving anyone out! With a few simple swaps, you can adapt this recipe to suit various dietary needs while keeping the festive fun and delicious results intact. Here are some easy ways to customize your cupcakes:
- Gluten-Free
Replace the yellow cake mix with a gluten-free version. Many brands offer options that bake up just as moist and fluffy as the original. Ensure your sprinkles and frosting are also gluten-free to keep the entire recipe celiac-safe. - Dairy-Free
Opt for a dairy-free cake mix and use plant-based milk and oil in the batter. For the frosting, substitute traditional vanilla frosting with a dairy-free alternative—there are plenty of creamy, delicious options available! - Vegan
Make these cupcakes fully vegan by using a plant-based cake mix or adjusting the recipe with egg substitutes like flaxseed meal or applesauce. Pair this with vegan frosting options and confirm that your sprinkles are free from animal-derived ingredients like gelatin or confectioner’s glaze. - Low-Sugar or Sugar-Free
If you’re watching sugar intake, swap the cake mix with a sugar-free version and choose a frosting that’s low in sugar or sweetened with alternatives like monk fruit or stevia. You can also find sugar-free sprinkles to keep the festive charm intact. - Nut-Free
Most of the ingredients are nut-free-friendly, but double-check all labels to avoid cross-contamination. Steer clear of frostings or sprinkles manufactured in facilities that process nuts for added peace of mind.

Easter Sprinkle Cupcakes Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 box yellow cake mix plus ingredients listed on back
- 2-3 Cup(s) vanilla frosting this will be about 2 containers
- 1 Cup(s) Easter sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Add the cake mix, oil, water, and eggs to a mixing bowl, and beat for 2 minutes on medium speed.
- Add the cupcake liners to a cupcake pan, and fill each liner 1/2 full with the batter. Tap the pan down on the counter to even out the added batter.
- Put the pan in the oven for 12-15 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the middle of the cupcakes to check if they are fully baked. If the inserted toothpick comes out clean, they are done.
- Remove them from the oven and add to a cooling rack for 1 hour.
- Once the cupcakes are totally cooled, take them out of the pan and use a star frosting tip to carve a whole in the middle of the cupcake. Only carve it out about halfway.
- Fill the space with sprinkles.
- Clean off the piping tip, then put it into the piping bag, full of frosting.
- To frost the cupcakes, start at one edge, and go around the cupcake clockwise. Go into the middle of the cupcake once you meet the original starting point. You can do two loops if you want to add more frosting before piping towards the center.
