I’m not going to lie, when I think fall the first thing I think of are apples and pumpkins. Maybe it’s because I love both so much!
Apples are a wonderful and versatile fruit and that you can enjoy year-round in many different recipes. Heck, I love having apples on hand it eat fresh and when I can whip up a homemade apple recipe at a moment’s notice, even better!
Apples come in so many different varieties, it’s always fun to see what variety you enjoy the most. Plus, some apple varieties are better for cooking and baking than others. Most packages let you know what those particular apples are good for!

You may be familiar with the common phrase, ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away.’ And, for good reason! Not only are apples delicious they are a perfect portable, yet healthy snack!
Eating apples are linked to weight loss, heart health and they are chock-full of vitamins and nutrients as well as a great source of fiber!
How many apple varieties are there?
There are over 2,500 varieties of apples grown in the United States every year. Yep, you read that right! That said, there are about 11 popular varieties that you are probably familiar with.
Some of the most well-known varieties include: Granny Smith, Jonagold, Braeburn, Gala, Red Delicious, Fuji and more! Each have their own unique color, taste and texture.
Apples to Apples Game Night:
We love to play the game Apples to Apples. Seriously, we laugh and laugh at the different (and often hilarious) matches that are made! It’s the kind of game that’s perfect for all ages (as long as you can read).
This game is super simple to play. There aren’t pages of complicated directions. And you don’t really need to be strategic to win, which makes it great for all ages and abilities.
We’ve found that we have the most fun when we have 5 or more people playing. “The more the merrier” really applies here.
Playing Apples to Apples can also be a great conversation starter. You can find out why Uncle Bobby thinks gold chains are awkward or why your 9 year old thinks waterfalls are scary.
We usually take this with us when we go on vacation with our friends. Each night we have a theme night that includes our dinner and activities for the evening. We’ve found that Apples to Apples is perfect for rainy days at the beach or at night, when we’re all tired from swimming and building sand castles.
We laugh and laugh! And, we’ve even stayed up after the kids have gone to bed and played with just the adults!
