There are literally so many great places to visit in the US with kids, but Portland Maine has to be one of the best. From the list of fun attractions below, I think you’ll have to agree. These are our favorite kid friendly activities with kids in Portland Maine.

Portland, Maine Activities for Kids:
There really are a lot of cool things to see in Portland, Maine. When we first visited, my boys had a list a mile long about all that they wanted to do. And if we could have done it all, we would have.
But just like everything in life, there is a time and place for it all. We had to narrow it down a bit for our choices but I’m so glad we were able to do the ones that we could!
This list below has some of our favorites mixed in with a few that are just too good to pass up. When in Portland, be a tourist!

1. Portland Observatory
Stopping at the Portland Observatory is a piece of history that you can’t pass up. It was built way back in the early 1800s so there is so much history to see and learn.
This is a great way to add some learning in with your traveling fun.
2. International Cryptozoology Museum
Talk about a fun history! The International Cryptozoology Museum will put fun thoughts in the kid’s minds.
They’ll learn about Big Foot, Loch ness monster, and even mermaids, too!
3. Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park
Needing a place to burn a bit of energy? The Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park is the perfect indoor setting to do just that.
The kids will love it but you can join in on the fun, too.
4. Portland Museum of Art
The Portland Museum of Art is full of beauty and wonderful works of art. You and the family can spend several hours there easily looking at all the pieces of art.
If you have an artist in the family, this would be the perfect stop to add to your list.
5. Portland Head Light
The Portland Head Light offers one of the best scenic views. Take in the lighthouse as well and you’ve created quite an adventurous trip.
Put on your walking shoes and get ready to get your hiking on!
6. Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad
Taking a train ride at the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad is such a fun treat for the kids. Such a family friendly activity.
There is also a really great museum that is packed full of a ton of historical information as well.
7. Back Cove Trail
Be one with nature on the Back Cove Trail. You can walk or bike and take in some beautiful views.
Be certain to pack a snack and some water because you can spend a lot of time walking around and exploring.
8. Liberty Ship Memorial
Liberty Ship Memorial lets the kids get up close and personal with some big ships. They can also walk around and read up on local history as well.
Not far from this is also the Bug Light Lighthouse which is worth the trip.
9. Peppermint Park
This is really just a park but it’s a good pit stop to try and do when you’re exploring and traveling through Portland, Maine.
The kids can play on the playground while you sit and relax.
10. Round1 Bowling And Amusement
Challenge the kids to a bowling match at Round1 Bowling and Amusement. It’s a great place to relax and have some fun!
But beware…one game will certainly turn into two!
11. Fort Gorges
Let the kids take a look at Fort Gorges. It’s an old military fort that is not a tourist attraction and it’s pretty cool to peek around in.
Built in the middle of the 1800s, there is a lot of cool history here.
12. Bug Light Park
Pack up some food and have a family picnic at Bug Light Park. This park is open and has a lot of great space for people to roam and hang out.
Sitting and viewing the harbor from the park is fun as well.
