How do you know when muffins are done baking in the oven?
The easiest way is to have a toothpick inserted in the middle of the muffin. Once it’s removed from the center and comes out clean, you’ll know that it’s time to pull the muffins from the oven as well.
Depending on the cooking time for your muffin you might have to check this a few times. For a 30 minute recipe, I tend to check every 2 minutes once the initial timer has gone off.
How do you make a homemade crumb topping for muffins?
Adding your own crumb topping is so simple! You just need to combine brown sugar and melted butter into a large bowl to make up your wet ingredients. Depending on how much crumb topping you’re going to add, you can do a 1/2 cup of each, or 1/4 cup is fine, too.
Once the muffins get to room temperature, you can add on your crumb topping and enjoy. It won’t harden up, but it will add a sweet taste.
You can also add the crumb topping onto the top of the muffins before you bake them. This is a fun way to get a different texture on the top of the muffins.
