Pumpkin Pie Bars Recipe
We’re a split house between apple desserts and pumpkin recipes for fall sweets. While I enjoy a good apple treat, nothing screams warmth during fall months like anything made using pumpkin.
My boys agree that there is just something yummy about dessert bars like this that has them requesting me to make them year after year. I’m happy to oblige since that means I can also jump in and partake!
If you are craving pumpkin, these dessert bars are the best. The topping is creamy, and the body of the bars is also the perfect texture.
Is canned pumpkin really pumpkin?
Canned pumpkin is a food that is often used in the fall and winter months, particularly in dishes like pumpkin pie, soup, and bread. However, there is usually some confusion about whether or not a canned pumpkin is made from a real pumpkin.
The short answer is yes, canned pumpkin is made from real pumpkin. According to industry standards set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, canned pumpkin is “firm, sound, properly matured, golden fleshed, sweet varieties of either pumpkins or squash.”
While other forms of canned squash may also be labeled as “pumpkin,” true canned pumpkin is the real deal.
So go ahead and confidently enjoy that slice of pumpkin pie, knowing that your delicious dessert is made from the flesh of a real pumpkin.

What is the difference between canned pumpkin and canned pumpkin pie filling?
The main difference between the two is that canned pumpkin is just that – pure pumpkin puree without any added sugar or spices, allowing you to control the flavor and sweetness of your recipe.
On the other hand, canned pumpkin pie filling is already seasoned with spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. It includes added sugar, making it a convenient option for those who want a shortcut in their pumpkin pie or other pumpkin-inspired recipes.
Knowing the difference can help you choose your favorite pumpkin dish’s ingredients.
