Weekly Lesson Breakdown
Dive into October’s Kids Bible Reading Plan with this weekly guide that illuminates God’s provision and the joy of thankfulness.
Week 1 Plan – God the Provider
Focus Verses: Psalm 104 (selected verses)
Memory Verse: Psalm 104:24 – “How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”
Focus Idea: God created and provides for everything.
Daily Activities and Resources
- Monday: Read selected verses from Psalm 104, focusing on how God provides for all of creation. Go on a nature walk and point out examples of God’s provision: trees for birds, water for fish, and sunshine for plants.
- Tuesday: Create a “Nature’s Blessings” collage. Use leaves, twigs, and flowers collected on your walk to make a piece of art that celebrates the beauty of God’s creation.
- Wednesday: Practice writing the memory verse, Psalm 104:24. Decorate the page with drawings of animals, plants, and other elements of nature mentioned in the psalm.
- Thursday: Watch a children’s nature video that shows different ecosystems and how animals find food and shelter. Discuss how God has a plan for every living thing.
- Friday: Plant a seed in a small pot. Talk about what the seed needs to grow (soil, water, sunlight) and how God provides all of it. Check on its progress throughout the month as a living reminder of God’s care.
Week 2 Plan – Thankful for Daily Bread
Focus Verses: Exodus 16 (Manna from Heaven)
Memory Verse: Exodus 16:4 – “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘I will rain down bread from heaven for you.’”
Focus Idea: God gives us what we need each day.
Daily Activities and Resources
- Monday: Read the story of manna from heaven in Exodus 16. Discuss how God provided food for the Israelites in the desert. Emphasize that He gave them just enough for each day, teaching them to trust Him.
- Tuesday: Bake bread or make a simple snack together as a family. While you work, talk about the ingredients and how they come from the earth, which God created. Thank God for your food before you eat.
- Wednesday: Write or draw pictures of things you are thankful for that you receive daily, like food, a home, or family. Use these to start a “Gratitude Garland” to hang in your home.
- Thursday: Practice the memory verse, Exodus 16:4. You can use crackers or small cereal pieces to form the letters of the verse, making it a fun and edible activity.
- Friday: Play a “Trust Walk” game. One person is blindfolded while another guides them safely around a room or yard. Talk about how the Israelites had to trust God to provide for them, just as the blindfolded person trusted their guide.

Week 3 Plan – The Joy of Giving Thanks
Focus Verses: Luke 17:11-19 (Jesus and the Ten Lepers)
Memory Verse: Luke 17:16 – “He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him.”
Focus Idea: We should always remember to say thank you.
Daily Activities and Resources
- Monday: Read the story of Jesus healing the ten lepers in Luke 17. Discuss why it was important that one came back to thank Jesus. Ask your kids how it feels when someone thanks them for something.
- Tuesday: Create “Thank You” cards for people in your community, such as mail carriers, teachers, or pastors. This activity helps children practice expressing gratitude to others.
- Wednesday: Practice the memory verse, Luke 17:16. Act out the story, with one child pretending to be the leper who returns to thank Jesus. This helps make the story more memorable.
- Thursday: Start a family “Gratitude Jar.” Each day, have every family member write down one thing they are thankful for on a slip of paper and add it to the jar.
- Friday: Read the contents of your Gratitude Jar together. Spend time in prayer, thanking God specifically for each of the blessings your family has listed throughout the week.
Week 4 Plan – A Heart Full of Gratitude
Focus Verses: Philippians 4:4-8 (Rejoice in the Lord)
Memory Verse: Philippians 4:4 – “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”
Focus Idea: We can be thankful in all circumstances.
Daily Activities and Resources
- Monday: Read Philippians 4:4-8 together. Talk about what it means to “rejoice always.” Discuss how we can find things to be thankful for even on difficult days.
- Tuesday: Create a “Thankful Pumpkin.” Use a real or craft pumpkin and have each family member use a marker to write things they are thankful for all over it. Use it as a centerpiece for your table.
- Wednesday: Write the memory verse, Philippians 4:4, using bright, joyful colors. Decorate the page with smiley faces, stars, and things that make you happy.
- Thursday: Make a “Blessings Mix” snack. Use different ingredients like pretzels (arms folded in prayer), raisins (remembering to be sweet to others), and chocolate chips (for the sweet blessings in life). Talk about what each ingredient represents as you mix it.
- Friday: Have a family celebration of thankfulness. Share your favorite memories from the month, sing songs of praise, and thank God for His unending love and provision.
