If you’ve never been to this part of Kansas before, you really need to go. There are so many fun things in this town to see and do. We’ve always enjoyed our time in Kansas every time we’ve gone.
My boys really love to see all the farmland as we’re driving through the state. While we have farming where we live, it’s not in abundance like that. The views are just somehow different, too.
There are so many things to see and do in the state of Kansas. Be certain to have Wichita on your radar.

Is the Wichita area a great place for the whole family to explore?
Absolutely. You can easily plan a family night or take the entire family to any popular place listed below. One of my favorite things about this area is that there are historic buildings, free things, and educational programs all around.
If you can visit during the summer months, you might be able to hear local artists and see more fun and unique history as well. It’s one of the best places to visit.
There are a lot of great museums and interactive experiences that are so much fun.
1. Exploration Place
The Exploration Place has a ton of hands-on activities that encourage the kids to explore and be curious. This is a great science place that offers so many fun exhibits for the kids.
There is a snack bar option as well so you don’t have to worry about leaving if the kids get hungry.
2. Sedgwick County Zoo
Home to more than 3,000 animals, you don’t want to miss out on a stop at the Sedgwick County Zoo. The kids are certain to see all their favorite animals.
There are a wide variety of animals that are available for daily viewing.
3. Old Cowtown Museum
Old Cowtown Museum takes the family back to the old days. They’ll see artifacts that they didn’t even know existed!
Daily demonstrations being history to life as well! Be certain to give yourself plenty of time to get through all the exhibits.

4. Botanica
If you’re looking for beauty, Botanica has you covered. Acres upon acres of stunning sights, structures, and colors.
There is a great area for the kids to explore and see as well. Be certain to take your camera as there are some stunning sights! There are more than 50,000 tulips that bloom there during the spring!
The Botanica Gardens are one of the most beautiful Wichita gardens you’ll see. It’s a great place to take older and young children to walk and enjoy nature. Visitors of all ages will enjoy.
5. Doo-Dah Diner
If you’re a fan of spice, order up a serving of their Spicy Bacon. Or ask for a big pile of homemade waffles as well!
There’s a reason that everyone keeps going back to Doo-Dah Diner over and over again. If you want good food, go here.
6. Great Plains Nature Center
Taking a tour at Great Plains Nature Center is a must. The paved trails make it easy to walk and explore and the native wildlife that you’ll see is so much fun as well.
And the best part is that the exhibits are free to explore! Being able to have free admission to take your time to explore all the Kansas wildlife exhibit options is a great way to spend the day.
7. Old Mill Tasty Shop
The Old Mill Tasty Shop is doing everything right! People keep coming back for more homemade food time and time again.
Make certain to let the kids get an old-fashioned fountain soda there as well.
8. The Keeper of the Plains
The Keeper of the Plains is a giant steel sculpture that is there to remind of Native American history. There are also fire rings and lights that are lit nightly around 7 PM for a few moments of time, too. It’s also home to the Mid-America All-Indian Museum.
Take a stroll on the trails to take in the sights and learn more about the history, too.
9. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Allen House
Built in 1915, the Frank Lloyd Wright’s Allen House is quite a beautiful sight. YOu can easily use this house tour as a fun example to talk to your children about architecture.
There are not many Frank Lloyd Wright homes left to tour so do this one while it’s available.
10. Field Station: Dinosaurs
Field Station is all about fun and family time. There are so many different dinosaurs to see here that you’ll want to really carve some time out of your schedule to visit.
There are over 40 life like dinosaurs to see! (and they move, too!)
11. Splash Aqua Park
Splash Aqua Park is an inflatable water park that everyone in the family will love. As they say, all you need is your swimsuit, a towel, and some time to have fun!
It’s literally a giant obstacle course on the water.
12. Museum of World Treasures
Don’t miss out on the Museum of World Treasures. It’s a world history museum that has exhibits about all time periods of the world and some really cool and unique things, too. This is one of the best museums and such a fun place to visit.
