Many of us struggle with anxiety. We worry about our kids, our finances, our schedules, events, our kids’ school, and a whole lot more. Part of being a mom is stressing and worrying on an almost constant basis. However, all that anxiety and stress is terrible for the body. Anxiety can quickly lead to serious health problems including weight gain, chronic anxiety, and depression. Our kids and family can also pick up on anxious thoughts, creating a house filled with worry and stress. Luckily, mild anxiety can be treated with essential oils. These essential oils for anxiety have been shown to relieve mild anxiety and stress.

Essential Oils for Anxiety and Stress

Several studies have found that essential oils can help relieve anxiety, including one from 2007 published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. In this study, cancer patients treated with essential oil massage reported feeling less stressed and anxious.

Certain oils naturally boost mood and promote a feeling of calm. This is beneficial in not only relieving short-term stress, but creating a stress-free tone in the home that will encourage everyone in the house to relax and de-stress (three cheers for less yelling!).

According to The American College of Healthcare Sciences, the following oils are the most beneficial at relieving anxiety and stress:

There are three ways you can use essential oils to relive anxiety in your house:

  1. Diffuse the oils: Aromatherapy has been shown to be an effective mood and anxiety lifter in the 2007 study. Diffuse any anti-anxiety oil (or a blend of several oils) in an essential oils diffuser to reduce anxiety.
  1. Massage oil: Rub a mixture of anxiety-relieving oils and a carrier oil (like fractionated coconut oil) into the skin for five to ten minutes when you feel anxious.
  1. Bath drops: Drop three or four drops of essential oil into a bath tub and soak in the aromatic bath for an hour to relive anxiety and de-stress.

If you’re tight on time, Rocky Mountain Oils also carries a complete de-stressing blend called At Peace containing seven stress-relieving oils all in one ready-to-use bottle safe to use directly on the skin with no additional carrier oil.
