Engaging Valentine Activities for Preschoolers

You’ll find that all of these activities were geared towards early learners and are the perfect way to show them how fun parties and party planning can be!

  1. Crafting Valentine Cards: Provide colorful paper, stickers, glitter, stamps, and markers, and let the kids make their Valentine cards to exchange with friends. This activity develops creativity and fine motor skills.
  1. Heart-Themed Scavenger Hunt: Hide paper hearts around the room for the kids to find. You can make it extra fun by assigning each child a color to collect. They’ll have a blast with this scavenger hunt!
  1. Cookie Decorating Station: Bake heart-shaped sugar cookies beforehand and decorate the area with icing, sprinkles, and edible glitter. Bonus—they get a delicious treat afterward!
  1. Love Bug Crafts: Have the kids create cute “love bugs” by gluing googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and paper hearts onto colorful craft paper or recycled toilet paper tubes.
  1. Pin the Heart: A Valentine spin on “Pin the Tail on the Donkey,” where kids try to pin a heart onto a giant paper cupid or a teddy bear.
  1. Valentine Bingo: Create simple Bingo cards using love-themed images like hearts, flowers, and chocolates. Use candy hearts as markers for a sweet reward.
  1. Balloon Heart Pop: Fill heart-shaped balloons with small treats or notes and have supervised balloon-popping fun.
  1. Friendship Tree: Create a large paper tree and have each child sign or decorate a “leaf” heart to attach to the branches. It’s a great keepsake to commemorate the day.
  1. Singing Love Songs: Teach the kids simple Valentine-themed songs like “Skidamarink” and have a little sing-along session.
  1. DIY Heart Crowns: Provide strips of paper, foam hearts, and stickers so kids can make their very own Valentine crowns to wear at the party.

Tips for Organizing a Preschool Valentine Party

  • Decorations: Keep it bright and cheerful! Think heart garlands, balloons, and lots of red, pink, and white. Bonus points if the kids help make decorations like paper chains or heart cutouts beforehand.
  • Snacks: Opt for easy-to-eat treats like mini sandwiches, cut-up fruit, and yogurt parfaits. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to add a festive twist!
  • Parent Participation: Invite parents to join in for parts of the day, whether as helpers or participants in storytime and activities. A little extra help never hurts!
  • Party Favors: Send each child home with a goodie bag with small toys, stickers, or a mini book about love or friendship.
