But back to this amazing virgin Mint Julep recipe and how easy it is to make. All you have to do is make the simple syrup in a small saucepan, remove from heat and combine with some limeade (or lemon juice if you’re desperate).
If you want to make it a little fizzy, you can add ginger ale, but I stick with some cups of water the way juleps are traditionally made.
Add some crushed ice and you’re ready for derby day at the Kentucky derby.

- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup water
- 1 cup fresh mint leaves
- 4 cups limeade
- 2 lemons
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
- Stir together sugar, water, and mint leaves in a small saucepan.
- Once the mixture reaches the boiling point, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Remove from the stove and allow mixture to cool for 3 mintues.
- Pour the mixture through a strainer in order to remove the mint leaves.
- Add ice to 4 glasses.
- Place 3 tablespoons of mint syrup to each of the glasses.
- Squeeze half of a lemon's juice in each glass.
- Top off each glass with 1 cup of limeade.
- Stir and garnish with mint leaves.
