Once they learn how to identify letters, this will then help with reading comprehension, spelling, and more. With 26 letters in the alphabet, now is the time to start working through them all so that they’re able to identify and use them the correct way. Plus, they’ll have so much confidence in their abilities after working through and using these alphabet printables!
The fun part about this free learning printable is that it’s geared towards independent learning. While you can absolutely sit next to your learner while they’re working through it, you may not have to.
Once they look through the printable, they just might be excited to pick up their pen or pencil and get started right away! And if they have that excitement, let it take over so that they can have a blast!

Fun ways to use this printable:
It’s so simple to print out and start using this packet right away, but don’t forget to branch out and have fun! There are so many great ways that you can extend the life of learning about the letter H – and learning about hippos, too! Here are some of my fun suggestions.
Expand with some letter crafts
How many fun letter H crafts can you think of? Hippos are being done, but what about a craft about hamsters, hats, or even hamburgers?
The more silly words that you have them think about that start with the letter H, the more that they’re going to have fun with the concept – and also learn about the letter H!
Make a hippo out of construction paper
Get out the glue, construction paper, and scissors, and have a hippo-making contest! If the kids want to make a giant hippo, you might need a lot of paper!
They can trace on the body and then cut it out – and add lots of cute colors, eyes, and more. Don’t forget to have them draw the habitat of a hippo as well and create the whole scene.
Head to the zoo!
If you have a zoo nearby, go see a real hippo! There’s nothing like spending the day learning about the letter H and doing this hippo activity and then taking the kids to see a real hippo! They’ll have a blast, and it’s a great way to extend the learning lesson and get out of the house.
If you do head to the zoo, you can even have them take a drawing book or a notepad and write out what they see at the zoo while they’re observing the hippos. It’s always a good time to review their notes and see the hippo through their eyes!
