Mummy Face Pizzas (Easy Halloween Bagel Pizzas)

Sharing is caring!

Mummy face pizzas are about the easiest Halloween food you will make all month. Bagel halves, pizza sauce, string cheese pulled into bandages and two olive eyes. That is the whole list. Fifteen minutes start to finish, and the oven does most of it.

They started out as the snack on my Halloween party plan and earned their own post. If you are hosting, the full plan is in How to Throw a Great Halloween Kids Party. Then come back here for the food.

Below: what you need, how to wrap the mummies so they actually look like mummies, a few swaps, and the printable recipe card at the bottom.

What You Need

  • Plain bagels. Standard 3 1/2 inch bagels, split in half. Each bagel makes two mummies. Mini bagels work for a party tray, and English muffins work in a pinch.
  • Pizza sauce. Jarred is fine. Marinara works too.
  • String cheese. This is the trick. It pulls apart into thin strips, and thin strips are what make it look like bandages instead of a pile of cheese.
  • Sliced black olives. The eyes. Pepperoni cut into small circles works if olives are not welcome at your table.

How to Make Mummy Face Pizzas

  1. Heat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Spread the sauce on each bagel half.
  3. Pull the string cheese into thin strips and lay them across the bagel in a random crisscross. Leave a small gap about a third of the way down for the eyes.
  4. Trim any cheese hanging over the edge with kitchen shears.
  5. Press two olive slices into the gap for eyes.
  6. Set them on a baking sheet and bake about 10 minutes, until the bagel is crisp and the cheese is melted.

Tips for Better Mummies

  • Leave the eye gap before you finish wrapping. It is a lot harder to make room after.
  • Thinner strips look better. Thick strips melt into one big blob.
  • Watch the last couple of minutes. You want the cheese melted, not browned, so the bandages stay white.

Easy Variations

  • Pepperoni mummies. Tuck a few pepperoni slices under the cheese before baking.
  • Mini mummies. Use mini bagels for a crowd or a party tray.
  • Gluten free. Use gluten free bagels. Nothing else changes.

Make Ahead and Storage

These are best right out of the oven. For a party, you can assemble them a few hours ahead, keep them covered in the fridge, and bake when guests arrive. Leftovers reheat best in the oven or air fryer so the bagel stays crisp.

Yes, and this is one of the few where they can do most of it. Pulling the string cheese into strips and placing the olive eyes are the perfect kid jobs. You handle the oven.
