Sharing is caring!

Need a fun way to spice up your homeschool geography lessons? Our West Virginia Coloring and Handwriting Book is the perfect hands-on supplement for curious young learners!

Let’s face it – studying the 50 states of the United States can get boring with just facts and tests. This FREE printable makes learning about West Virginia exciting instead!

West Virginia’s mountains, incredible animals, and rich history come alive when kids can color and write about them. Kids remember what they enjoy!

This book works great for elementary-aged students. It fits right into your homeschool day or classroom activities with zero stress.

Introducing our West Virginia Coloring and Handwriting Book: beautifully designed worksheets combining handwriting practice with charming bear illustrations. Each sheet features a perforated paper design on the sides, set against a rustic wooden background. Perfect for creative learning!.

Kids love drawing and writing when they can connect it to real places! This printable helps them learn about the Mountain State while having a blast.

What is the learning benefit of this West Virginia Coloring and Handwriting Book?

This West Virginia Coloring and Handwriting Book helps kids build necessary language skills! When children trace the state name and symbols, they learn letters better, practice writing correctly, and expand their vocabulary with new West Virginia-specific terms.

Coloring and handwriting work together perfectly! While little fingers color an animal or plant from the pack, they build the same fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination they need for better handwriting. Learning happens without them even knowing it!

I made this book for preschoolers and first-graders, but older kids who need writing practice will love it, too. Kids feel so proud when they finish each page, which makes them want to learn more!

What it includes:

Our activity book features 11 designed pages that bring the Mountain State to life! Each page helps kids learn while having fun.

The book starts with West Virginia’s distinctive outline, giving children a geographical foundation for their learning adventure. From there, they’ll discover the state’s fascinating wildlife, including the black bear, honeybee, timber rattlesnake, and brilliant red northern cardinal.

But that’s not all! I’ve also included pages dedicated to West Virginia’s plant life, such as the rhododendron and sugar maple, as well as other state treasures, such as the brook trout, northern red salamander, and even the golden delicious apple (which did you know originated in West Virginia?!).

Every page has big bubble letters at the top, a simple but detailed picture to color, and dotted lines at the bottom for writing practice. Easy peasy!

Mountain State Memory Match

Turn your book into a fun game! After coloring the pages, make another copy and cut out the illustrations. Write the names of each state symbol on index cards. Mix them up and have kids match the name cards to the right illustrations.

This activity helps kids remember the words and connect them with the visual representations. You can make it more exciting by timing the activities or adding cool facts they need to match!

West Virginia Travel Journal

Use the colored pages to start a West Virginia travel journal! After kids color and practice writing each state symbol, they can paste the pages into a blank notebook.

Between each coloring page, leave space for them to write facts they’ve learned about that symbol or place. If you plan a trip to West Virginia, save room for photos or things they collect (like pressed leaves or postcards) that correspond to the symbols. They’ll end up with their very own West Virginia keepsake!

Symbol Spotlight Presentations

Each page can become a mini show-and-tell! After coloring and writing, kids can look up a few cool facts about that plant, animal, or state feature.

Then, they can share three interesting things about their symbol in a quick one-minute talk while holding up their colored page. This approach builds research skills and speaking confidence and helps them learn more about what makes West Virginia special!
