Fish Little Fishes Swimming in the Sea!
We’re jumping back into the swing of things here with some fun preschool art projects. The days are getting a bit colder and the art table is getting used a bit more. That’s okay with me! I’ve been seeing some terrific Preschool Ocean themed activities, so I thought we’d give a few a try. For today, we’re making a poster board fish tank. The kids will have a blast checking out other fun ideas in our Ocean Animals Unit Study, too.
I had a whole school of toilet paper roll fish left over from an event we did at church. They had been sitting on the shelf in my office for over a year, so I brought them on home for the kids to paint.
To see how to make your own cardboard tube fish, check out Catholic Icing’s Post (hers are glittery and way cooler than mine!)
Let’s Get Started!
What You Need:
- Cardboard Toilet Paper Tubes (2-3 for each child), cut and made into fish
- Blue and Green Paper along with whatever color paints you want for your fish
- Paper plates
- Poster Board
- Wash cloth or sponge
- Paint Brushes
- Rinse Water (optional)
What You Do:
Begin by pouring some paint on the paper plates. Lay out paint brushes and divide fish up among the kids.
As you can see, we had a ton of fish, so I let the kids paint whatever they wanted.
Even the youngest kids (19 months) seem to really enjoy this project.
Paint. Paint. Paint.
Once the fish are completed, set them aside to dry. Paint a few strands of sea weed onto the poster board.
If you have an 3 or 4 year old, have them make the blue ocean by dipping a wash cloth or sponge into blue paint and then blotting it onto the poster board.
Once the poster board is finished and dry, you can glue the fish into place! If you are planning on hanging it on the wall to display, I would recommend using tacky glue or hot glue so the fish won’t fall off.
