College is right around the corner. Many students are already preparing for the big day of moving away from home for the first time. As a parent, we want to ensure that our young adults have all the essentials that they need to live comfortably while away from home. Dollar General has many back to school supplies available to meet the needs of anyone.

Prepare for College with Dollar General

I made a trip to Dollar General with my precollege child to let them see firsthand how far $20.00 would go. When we first got there, it was overwhelming the amount of items that were available. We couldn’t decide if we wanted dorm décor, pots & pans, school supplies, or food & cleaning supplies. The choices of items that were on sale was actually breath taking for a soon to be independent young adult. I do declare we made rounds throughout the store at least twice before she decided.

We decided to shop for essential items needed in a home. Since my child loves to change clothes a lot throughout the day we decided that she would need take advantage of DG Dorm Essentials sale and get laundry soap for $4.00, a laundry basket for $1.00, and some cleaning supplies in the dollar section for their dorm. Plus she loves to walk into a room that smells nice, so we snagged some $1.00 candles that are perfect for the upcoming fall season.

Of course, she had to have one luxury item, so she convinced me that she HAD to have a new body pillow. Since they were on sale for only $10.00, I consented. I reminded her though, that when it comes to making a budget she is going to have to take those luxury items into account.

She learned that $20.00 doesn’t go far. However, it goes a lot farther at Dollar General than it does at department stores. It was an enjoying outing being able to find out what things she really wants in her new dorm. It also pulls at the heart strings knowing that our kids are growing up right before our eyes.
