How To Redo Your Laundry Room
This post was written in 2016 and updated in 2021 – my Whirlpool machines are still going strong and still helping me to stay completely aught up on laundry!!
If you have a home, laundry is probably the bane of your existence. I get it, trust me, there are SIX people in my house and 5 of the six do sports in some form or another. That means MULTIPLE outfits used per day. Plus, 3 of the six are teens – they stink. Oh, they stink. LOL!
So, laundry gets done every day in my home – every single day. Each day, over an hour of my time is spent in the laundry room. Many days, more time than that. Shouldn’t it be a place that makes me happy?
This place that I spend 7-10 hours in per week should not stress me out! So, here are my tips for How To Redo Your Laundry Room! Then you must read this list of great cleaning tips and tricks!

How to Redo Your Laundry Room:
It doesn’t matter how big or small your laundry room is, breathing a bit of fresh life into it will make your job so much easier!
- Clean it up – Take the time to get the laundry room totally cleaned out. We don’t really have a big problem in Miller Manor, but in my old house we had a very large laundry room. Consequently, it was a catch-all room.
- Choose a color – I wanted my new laundry room to be bright and fun. So, I painted it white and chose some cute laundry themed pictures in muted colors (as seen in the picture above).
- Spend the money – There is no getting around it… unless we live in a nudist colony, laundry is something that ALWAYS has to be done. Why constantly fight with equipment that doesn’t perform? Save your pennies to get a duo that works! Personally, I recommend this extra capacity washing machine and this electric steam dryer from Whirlpool.
- Make it functional – We added a few small shelves and are in the process of adding some hooks. The shelves keep my dryer top clear and the hooks will allow us to hang clothes straight out of the dryer.
- Protect your body – Since we spend tons of time standing in front of our washers and dryers, we need a good rug to stand on. I suggest a memory foam rug.
I am STILL in love with my new washer and dryer and will be bringing you even more information about them over the next few months.

The house we just bought needs a laundry update. It is in plain basement right now and I want to add some excitement to it. Thanks for these ideas.
These are all great ideas for redoing a laundry room! I have to admit we need to redesign ours, I need to put more racks for organization. Also, I love the idea of a memory foam mat! I have to remember to get those not just for the laundry but also for our kitchen!
I never thought of adding a rug to my laundry room. I will be going tomorrow to see if I can find a good one. Having kids, I spend a lot of time in front of my dryer.
These are great ideas! My laundry room is the worst room in the house, and as soon as I have more money I’m going to completely redo it.
These are awesome ideas. I need some shelves in my laundry area. It’s time we get it done.
Great tips. Not long ago we redid our laundry room. It was getting to be kinda messy, so we made some changes. We bought a nice organizer to keep things more organized. It’s working well too.
I love that set and want it so bad! Is it wrong of me to hope my current sent bites the dust so I can get a new one? LOL
I want a bigger laundry room one day. Ours is small but it works. I just need more counter space to fold the laundry and store things.
These are some great ideas! We closed on our first home last week! Our laundry is a bit large and in the basement. I am trying to figure out how to brighten the dark, basement laundry room. Hopefully some of these tips will help!
We’re moving into a new house in a few weeks and I’ve got to find a new washer and dryer. The new place has a little laundry room, but no cabinets or storage shelf, so I’m already thinking about how to fix that. And YES on the memory foam rugs! I have them in my kitchen too.
I agree with you. As much as I hate doing laundry, it is a must to have a washer and dryer that really does the job (of course, together with a good laundry detergent). I love how you made your laundry area a pleasant place with those pictures. That was a good idea!
I really need to do something about my laundry room. It is so un-motivating maybe that is why I usually leave the clean laundry in the baskets.
