Fall Math Activities for Preschool (Free Printable Worksheets)

Sharing is caring!

These fall math activities for preschool are five quick worksheets built around fall treats like donuts, pumpkin pie, cider mugs, cupcakes and wrapped candies. Each page works on one skill, so you can pull the one your child needs today and save the rest for later in the week. For more seasonal ideas, browse my fall activities and recipes.

The pages cover patterns, big and small, matching groups to numbers, counting to 10 and comparing two groups. Those are core early math skills for ages 3 to 5, and the pictures carry most of the work, so kids who are not reading yet can still do every page once you read the directions aloud.

Two sheets of colorful fall-themed math activity cards designed for preschoolers, featuring images of mugs, pies, donuts, lollipops, cupcakes, and jars. The sheets are titled Fall Math Activities for Preschool Fun.

Below you will find exactly what is in the free PDF, how to prep it, how to make each page easier or harder, and more fall math ideas from my site and a few blogging friends. The download is at the bottom of the post.

What’s Included in the Fall Math Printable

The free download is a 7-page PDF: a cover page, five activity worksheets and a terms of use page. Each worksheet has a name line at the top and one short direction.

  • Fall Pattern (cut and paste): five rows of picture patterns using mugs, macarons, coffee cups, lollipops and candies. Kids cut out the five pictures along the bottom and glue each one into the empty square that finishes its row.
  • Big or Small?: four pairs of fall treats (donuts, mugs, candies and cupcakes). Kids put a check on the big one and cross out the small one.
  • Let’s Match!: five groups of fall objects to match to the numbers 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 by drawing a line.
  • Let’s Count!: five rows of treats to count, with answers from 5 to 10. Kids write each number in the box at the end of the row.
  • Comparing Numbers: five rows with a group of objects on each side. Kids count both groups and write greater than, less than or equal to in the circle. The three signs are printed at the top as a reminder.
The worksheet, titled Fall Themed Math for Preschoolers, features engaging fall math activities for preschool, where children compare numbers using autumn-themed objects. A child confidently writes a greater than, less than, or equal sign with a blue Crayola marker.

How to Use These Fall Math Worksheets

Prep

Regular printer paper is fine. The Fall Pattern page gets cut and glued, so print a fresh copy each time and have safety scissors and a glue stick ready. The other four pages can go into sheet protectors or get laminated, and then a dry-erase marker makes them reusable all season.

Counters make the counting and comparing pages much easier for little hands. Mini pumpkins, pom-poms, buttons, dried beans or acorns all work. Kids set one counter on each picture as they count, then line the counters up in two rows to see which group is longer. Keep an eye on small counters with younger kids.

Make It Easier or Harder for Ages 3 to 5

  • Age 3: start with Big or Small, since it needs no counting at all. On the pattern page, say each row out loud together before cutting. On the counting pages, let your child point and count while you write the number.
  • Age 4: use counters on Let’s Match and Let’s Count. If writing numbers is still hard, lightly write the answer in the box and let them trace it.
  • Age 5: try Comparing Numbers on their own. Ask them to say the answer as a sentence, like “5 is less than 6,” then ask how many more the bigger group has.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

A few quick answers for parents and teachers using these fall math pages with preschoolers.

They fit ages 3 to 5. Three-year-olds usually do well with Big or Small and the pattern page with help, while Comparing Numbers is the best fit for 5-year-olds getting ready for kindergarten.

No. Only Let’s Count and Comparing Numbers ask for writing. Your child can point to the answer while you write it, trace a number you write lightly in the box, or hold up a number card instead.

Put counters on both groups in a Comparing Numbers row and line them up side by side so your child can see which row is longer. Then tell them the open side of the sign always faces the bigger group. If both rows match, the equal sign goes in the circle.
