Learning to use scissors safely is essential – so the more they practice, the better they’ll get! Just download and print.

A worksheet titled Montessori Cutting Strips for Kids features dotted line shapes, including squares and circles, on a white background. The design encourages children to practice their scissor skills by cutting along the lines.

What I love about this cutting printable is that there are many pages for the kids to use. This is an excellent way for them to understand patience while learning to cut!

What is the learning benefit of this printable?

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one learning benefit, so I’ll have to review a few. This printable worksheet packet shows that practice can make perfect.

Each page shows the kids where to start and stop, and the dotted lines guide them. The more that they practice, the better control with the scissors they will have.

Here are some other great ideas that the kids will love!

Have more fun safety activities

Using scissors can be challenging for young children, but it mustn’t be a chore! Kids can improve their scissors skills while having fun with a few engaging activities.

One activity that many children enjoy is cutting out shapes or pictures from magazines or construction paper.

Another idea is to have them practice cutting along dotted lines on a page.

For extra creativity, try making a paper chain by cutting strips of construction paper and linking them together. You can also encourage children to cut out their unique shapes and designs.

By incorporating fun activities like these into your child’s routine, they will wield scissors like a pro in no time!

Create more cutting pages

It can be challenging to make cutting pages enjoyable for kids, but incorporating fun themes is a great way to make the activity more entertaining.

Consider options such as animals, superheroes, or ocean creatures. You could also let your child pick a theme they’re interested in: princesses or pirates.

By incorporating these themes, cutting pages can become more engaging and help to develop essential fine motor skills.

Additionally, themed cutting pages can be used as a jumping-off point for further learning and exploration, such as researching different animal types or discussing superheroes’ role in our communities.

Playing with different themes and incorporating them into cutting pages can make this activity a fun and educational experience for your child.

Have fun trying to cut left-handed or right-handed (opposite)

Learning to do things with your non-dominant hand can be a fun and rewarding challenge. If you’re left-handed, using scissors can be a frustrating experience. But fear not. There are ways to make cutting with your left hand more enjoyable.

First, try switching up the type of scissors you’re using. Some lefties find that using ambidextrous or left-handed scissors designed explicitly for lefties makes the task easier.

Second, practice and patience are key. Start with simple, straight lines and work up to more complex designs.

Lastly, embrace the uniqueness of your left-handedness and have fun with it. Make cutting a creative outlet and enjoy the process.
