No Mess Painting! {Colors and Letters}

Sharing is caring!

We love painting in our house.  I love painting.  My kids love painting.  The day care kids love painting.  Even the random kids that show up at my door selling candy bars like painting.  Wait, that’s not right.  Just kidding on that last one!  đź™‚  Of course, I’m sure you know — painting causes quite a mess.  It started causing a real mess when my kids discovered how fun it was to paint your body!

Red Paint Arm

I spotted some mess-free painting on Pinterest awhile ago and loved the concept!  We even took a bag with us on vacation!  These bags are great for learning about color combinations as well as practicing letters.  Want to make your own?

Here’s What You Need:

  • Paint
  • Large Ziploc Bags
  • Painter’s Tape
  • White Paper for under the bag

Here’s What You Do:

Pour two colors of paint into a large ziploc bag.  Seal the bag well and then tape down onto the table with painter’s tape.  We put a white piece of paper under the bag in order to provide a really clear contrast.  Ideally, you’ll want to put two primary colors in the bag so the kids can mix them together to create a new color!

Starting to draw in the paint!  Chipmunk was pretty little in this picture, so we didn’t do a lot with letters.  Instead, we practiced drawing circles (apparently circles are a pre-writing skill!).  You could write out some letters on a piece of paper for your preschooler and have them practice them using the paint.

No Mess Paint

It took a lot of playing before the paint colors started mixing, but Chipmunk was pretty excited when they did, since purple is her favorite color!  This is also a great sensory activity for kids who might not like getting their fingers messy when painting.

Have Fun!
