Introducing Miller Manor {Before}

We did it!  Ricky and I have invested in our futures like two crazy people!  Seriously, we bought a house.  Ok, we bought a MASSIVE house (5,196 square feet) and the thing is falling apart.  Our brand new (to us) Colonial Style home needs work from top to bottom, but when it is all done (probably 20 years from now) it is going to be an awesome place for our extended family and friends to gather.  (SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE POST TO SEE MY CHECK-INS ON THE PROGRESS)

For as long as I can remember, I have had this recurring dream that I win the lottery and with part of my winnings I buy an older, 8 bedroom home.  Well, I don’t play the lottery so that 8 bedroom home will never happen.  However, we found a home for us and while it only technically has 6 bedrooms (though the real estate listing claims 7), it has 4 other rooms that could be bedrooms.  So, I guess I am finally making my dreams come true and I didn’t have to play the lottery to do it!

I am super excited and can’t wait to get in there and start redoing and designing each room to fit my dreams!  Over the course of fixing up the house, decorating it for Holidays, and just loving (and living in) it, I will be writing blog posts so that you can follow our journey!Before_Miller Manor

Don’t flip out, it is BAD, but I can visualize what it will look like and I don’t think I have ever been more excited about anything… ok, I have – but it has been a ton of years!  My marriage and the births of each of my children have made me more excited, but the baby is 8 so you know it has been a lot of years. 🙂

Instead of trying to take pictures of a home that has boarded up windows and no power, I did a video walk-through of the home and will list out the rooms.  This way, as we get rooms ready I can do a post and link them up here.  Yes, this is going to be a new feature on my site and hopefully you guys are as excited about that as I am!

Note:  I tried brightening the movie a bit since it is so dark- hopefully you can get a bit of an idea of what the house looks like.

The rooms (or areas) that you can find inside and around Miller Manor are:

  29. Plus, we are planning to build a couple porches eventually!

I think that is it – whew!  Anyone want to come help me clean this monstrosity?

  1. Oh Wow!!! I will be following for sure 🙂 I have a HUGE love of old architecture and houses. Ours is 160 plus years, and we have spent years working on it. Such a labour of love. Enjoy! I can’t wait to see your progress! Thank you for sharing!!

    1. Our goal is to get in before Christmas! Before we can move in, we have to have a working bathroom & kitchen. Plus, it has to be up to code safety-wise. The rest, we will work on as we are living there. 🙂
