Talking about all the places in Florida is super fun, but branch out and try new ideas. Here are a few great options to get started on!
Learn about the types of animals that live in Florida
Florida has some amazing animals that your kids will love learning about! It’s not just beaches and sunshine—our state is crawling (and sometimes swimming) with incredible wildlife. From the playful dolphins that leap out of our coasts’ waters to the iconic American alligator found in our swamps, there’s something cool around every corner.
Don’t forget about the manatees, those gentle “sea cows” that drift lazily in our warm springs. And up in the trees, kids might spot colorful birds like the roseate spoonbill or sneaky raccoons peeking out from the foliage.

Plan a pretend trip to Disney and talk about all the rides
Planning a pretend trip to Disney is a magical way to spark excitement and creativity with the kids! Start by grabbing a park map (you can find one online!) and deciding where to “visit” first.
Will it be the iconic Cinderella’s Castle or a thrilling ride on Space Mountain? Ask them to imagine zipping through the galaxy on Space Mountain, splashing down on Splash Mountain, or flying high with Dumbo on the Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride. Don’t forget to “line up” for Pirates of the Caribbean or soar through the skies on Peter Pan’s Flight!
Encourage the kids to describe the snacks they’d try (Mickey-shaped ice cream, anyone?) and the characters they’d meet along the way.
Bonus points if they create their own itineraries or park guides—it’s like stepping into the magic of Disney right from home!
Talk about and learn about the state capital of Florida
Did you know the state capital of Florida isn’t Miami or Orlando? It’s Tallahassee! Nestled in the Florida Panhandle, this charming city is full of surprises.
With its stunning oak-lined streets, vibrant history, and buzzing local culture, there’s so much to explore.
It’s home to both Florida State University and Florida A&M University, making it a lively hub of youthful energy and innovation. Plus, history buffs will love discovering its role in Florida’s early days—did you know it was picked as the capital because of its location between the two original territorial hubs, St. Augustine and Pensacola?
