Why is it important to learn how to sort letters?

Activities like this teach kids how to sort letters so that they match. This helps them understand how lower case letters look, how upper case letters look, and more. This will help them learn how to identify letters quickly and in a way that works best for their learning.

Being able to use the puppies and have them go to the dog house is a great way to keep them engaged and active during the process.

Getting Ready to Use The Letter D Sorting Activity:

Capital Letter D doghouse
Lowercase Letter d doghouse
6 Capital D dogs
6 Lowercase d dogs

What Else Is Needed:

Card Stock or Copy Paper
Scissors
Plastic Container
Blue Shredded Paper
Cotton Balls
Laminator (optional)
Laminating Pouches (optional)

All you have to do is print out the activity at the bottom of the page. The kids can help cut out the dogs and dog houses and work on their scissor cutting skills and fine motor skills, too.

If you’re worried about tearing the dogs or spilling something on them, you can laminate them so that they can be used over and over again.

How To Use The Letter D Sorting Activity:

The kids will match the upper case D dog with the upper case D doghouse and the lower case d dog with the lower case d doghouse. They can do this over and over again until they understand and have no issues matching them together.

How Can I Extend This Learning Activity?

There are many ways that you can extend this activity! If you want to create a sensory bin for the kids to have more sensory experiences, do so! Add in some beads or stones, and then put the letter d dogs in it. They can then dig around in the sensory bin and find the dogs to pair up with the right dog houses.

Don’t forget that you can read them some great books about dogs, too! The more dog-themed activities that you can do, the better!
