Christmas Fine Motor Activities for Preschool
The holiday season brings perfect opportunities to develop essential fine motor skills through engaging in Christmas Fine Motor Activities for Preschool!
As kids eagerly anticipate Christmas morning, these printable activities combine seasonal joy with crucial developmental practice.
Wrapping presents, decorating cookies, and hanging ornaments all require finger strength and coordination – skills that young children are still developing.
These Christmas-themed pages help build hand muscles and improve dexterity while keeping little ones focused and entertained during the exciting holiday countdown!
I’ve created these activities for preschoolers needing extra fine motor development practice. The cheerful Christmas designs will keep them engaged while they work on essential pre-writing and manipulation skills!
What is the learning benefit of this printable?
These printables target critical developmental areas that preschoolers need to master!
The activities strengthen hand muscles required for writing, cutting, and daily tasks. They improve hand-eye coordination through careful tracing and dotting exercises.
The varied activities also build visual perception skills as children complete symmetrical patterns and follow paths.
I’ve designed each page with clear visual boundaries and age-appropriate challenges. The activities promote focus, concentration, and developing proper pencil grip, all crucial kindergarten readiness skills.

What it includes:
This Christmas-themed fine motor pack features five engaging activities that delight preschoolers while building essential skills.
The Tracing Lines activity lets kids practice different line patterns while connecting dots to festive ornaments. They’ll love using dot markers to create a colorful Christmas wreath design.
The cutting practice page features adorable cartoon ornaments with different geometric borders. Each smiling ornament character encourages children to follow the dotted cutting lines carefully.
The Christmas Tree Path gives kids an exciting destination as they trace their way through zigzag patterns.
I’ve also included a creative symmetry activity where children complete half of a Christmas present drawing. The other activities remain a surprise, but each targets specific fine motor skills in fun, seasonal ways!
Fun ways to use this printable:
You can adapt these printables in a wide range of creative ways. While working with preschoolers, I’ve discovered some exciting methods to make these activities more engaging.
Here are some of my favorite approaches:
Sensory Tracing Adventures
Set up a cozy tracing station by placing the line tracing pages in clear plastic sleeves or laminating them for durability. Children can explore different textures while developing their motor skills.
Try rolling playdough snakes to follow the paths, arranging colorful mini pom-poms along the lines, or creating snowy trails with cotton balls. This multi-sensory approach helps reinforce proper finger positioning and hand control.
Try white glitter glue for “icy” paths, magnetic wands with metal shavings for “magic” trails, or scented markers for an added sensory dimension. Children can practice proper finger grip while experiencing different textures and resistances, making learning more engaging and memorable.
Ornament Designer Workshop
Start by having children carefully cut out their ornament shapes, focusing on following the dotted lines precisely.
Once they have their ornament bases ready, transform your space into a festive design studio with an array of creative materials – think glitter, sequins, tiny buttons, small stickers, and even ribbon scraps. This setup allows children to exercise their pincer grasp while making artistic choices.
Create a designated display area where children can hang their ornaments using clothespins (another great fine motor activity!). This project can easily span multiple sessions, allowing children to build motor and creativity skills.
Musical Dot Markers
Sync the dot-marking movements with holiday tunes to transform the Do a Dot wreath activity into an engaging musical experience. Play your favorite Christmas songs and encourage children to connect the circles with the music.
When the music stops unexpectedly, children must freeze, adding an element of listening skills and self-control to the activity. Combining music and movement helps develop coordination while making the task more enjoyable.
