Texas Coloring and Handwriting Book

Sharing is caring!

Howdy, y’all! I’m sharing this Texas Coloring and Handwriting Book with you today. If your kids love to color and you want them to learn about states while practicing handwriting, this printable is what you need!

I created these pages because I wanted something that would make learning FUN while still being educational. Each page features amazing Texas symbols representing the best of the Lone Star State!

Coloring pages for preschool from the Texas Coloring and Handwriting Book featuring Texas themes. The top page displays a water lily with Texas above it, while the bottom showcases an armadillo with Texas armadillo. A wooden texture completes the background.

You’re getting 16 awesome Texas-themed pages in one quick download! Every page does double duty. It has a cool picture to color and handwriting practice at the bottom. Perfect for early learners!

What is the learning benefit of this Texas Coloring and Handwriting Book?

Kids learn best when they’re having fun! This Texas-themed activity book sneaks into the learning while they enjoy themselves with coloring.

The handwriting practice at the bottom of each page helps little fingers learn proper letter formation without the tears and frustration. They’ll trace those Texas words repeatedly without complaining because they’re excited about the pictures they just colored!

And let’s talk about Texas knowledge. While coloring that horned lizard or longhorn, they’re soaking up facts about the state like a sponge!

I can’t tell you how often kids surprise their parents with random Texas facts after using these pages. “Mom, did you know the armadillo has BANDS on its shell?” So fun!

What it includes:

The Texas Coloring and Handwriting Book is a treasure trove of Lone Star State wonders! The moment you open it, you’ll find the distinctive outline of Texas itself, ready to be brought to life with colors. But that’s just the beginning of your Texas adventure!

As you flip through the pages, you’ll discover Texas’ natural wonders – from the state tree’s nuts to the fascinating wildlife that calls Texas home.

I’ve included creatures that will surprise and delight your children – some they might recognize and others they’ll be excited to learn about for the first time. From creatures with spiky bodies to those with distinctive shells, the animal diversity represented will keep kids wanting more page after page.

The book doesn’t stop at animals! Texas’ beautiful flora makes an appearance, too, with detailed line drawings of flowers and plants.

And, of course, no Texas coloring book would be complete without a nod to the state’s cultural symbols – including one item of footwear that instantly brings cowboy culture to mind!

Each illustration features bubble-style lettering at the top (another coloring opportunity!) and dotted handwriting lines at the bottom.

Fun ways to use this printable:

This book is incredibly versatile! You can use it as a standalone activity or incorporate it into broader learning experiences about Texas. Here are some super fun ways to use it that’ll have your kids begging for “school time”:

Texas Symbol Bingo Blast!

Turn this into the most exciting game ever! Color all the pages first, then cut out the pictures (or make copies to keep the originals intact). Glue them onto a homemade bingo card with the symbols arranged differently for each player. Use simple items like beans or pennies as markers.

Call out Texas facts like “This animal wears armor!” or “This flower covers fields in blue during spring!” and watch kids race to identify and mark the correct symbol!

The first to get five in a row wins a special Texas-themed prize – maybe a star-shaped cookie or extra time with their favorite Texas book! Kids will learn facts without realizing it’s educational – sneaky, right?!

Texas Road Trip Adventure

Who needs a real road trip when you have imagination?!

After coloring the pages, cut them out and tape them all over your house or yard in locations—water creatures in the bathtub, plants in the garden, animals by the pet’s food bowl! Give your child a paper “car” (just cut one out!) and a map showing where each Texas symbol is hidden.

As they “drive” to each location, they must say one fact about what they find there! “I found the armadillo! They can hold their breath underwater for up to six minutes!”

Make silly Texas road trip snacks to enjoy, and maybe even wear cowboy hats for extra fun! This trip gets kids moving, learning, and using their imagination simultaneously!

Texas Trading Card Challenge

This one is perfect for playdates or siblings! After coloring all the pages, help kids turn each symbol into a trading card by cutting them out and gluing them to index cards. On the back, they can write (or you can help write) three cool facts about each symbol.

Then comes the trading part! Kids take turns picking cards they want to learn more about and trading with each other. “I’ll trade you my armadillo for your bluebonnet!”

They must read the facts on the back before making a trade. By the end, they’ll have handled each card multiple times and absorbed tons of Texas knowledge! Plus, they’ll have an incredible card collection they made themselves!
