Proverbs 4:7 Coloring Pages teaches wisdom and understanding.

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get Wisdom.

Though it costs all you have, get understanding.

Sounds great, in theory.  But, what exactly does it mean to “get wisdom”.  If we, as parents, don’t fully understand this, how can we teach our children?

As we age, our life experiences give us wisdom. However, it can be taught as well!  We have to teach our children to pay attention to their choices and the outcomes of those choices.

How to “Get Wisdom”:

Here are three great ways we can all put wisdom into practice.  Challenge your children to do these things!

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

ONE: Be humble!

As Socrates said,

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

I am at the stage in parenting where I am not longer kissing boo-boos or breaking up squabbles. Now, I am at the “giving advice” stage.  My kids are 18, 16, and 12.  They are past all the “little kid” stuff and into making real choices and learning from them. But, they are also at the age where they think they know everything there is to know about everything – especially the 16 year old.

I think I spend most of my talking time saying, “Are you going to talk or are you going to listen?  Remember, you learn more by listening than you can ever learn by talking!”  However, I am also at the stage of saying, “I am sorry that happened! It hurts me when you hurt. However, it is done now. So, what have you learned?”

When I get ready to talk to people, I spend two thirds of the time thinking what they want to hear and one third thinking about what I want to say.

TWO: Think before you speak!

As Abraham Lincoln said,

When I get ready to talk to people, I spend two thirds of the time thinking what they want to hear and one third thinking about what I want to say.

Yes!  If you can master this perfectly by saying what you want to say in a way that people want to hear, you will be an amazing conversationalist, great friend, and awesome spouse.!  My 16 year old was born with the ability to read people and then give them what they want – I mean, except his parents.  He is totally blind when it comes to us. LOL! That’s ok, he is a good kid when he is elsewhere, so that is more important to me than how he acts at home. 😀It's fine to celebrate success, but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.

THREE: Learn from your mistakes (and the mistakes of others!)

As Bill Gates said,

It’s fine to celebrate success, but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.

Proverbs 4:7 coloring pages are not the only place we can find advice about how we should live our lives.  Talk about these important virtues to your kids in a way they can understand. Every child knows Bill Gates.  Tell your children this famous quote and help them to interpret the meaning.
