How to Organize Clutter

Sharing is caring!

Are you overwhelmed with stuff?  Is it hard for you to organize clutter?

I’ve Learned that Less is More.  The less you have the less you must maintain and clean up, thus more time for YOU. So today we are going to work on how to organize clutter so that we can  Be Wise…(and)Get Organized, with Decluttering 101.

Sometimes that hardest part about decluttering, is simply getting started. So, let’s make this fun! Grab 2  boxes or laundry baskets, and a large garbage bag.  You’ll also need a timer.  1 box or basket will be for items that you want to keep, the other for items to give to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or any other charity of your choice.  The garbage bag is for the items that you are going to toss. Start in the room that bothers you the most.  Set your timer for 15 minutes….GO.

Pick up all items that do not belong in the room that you are in.  Quickly place each item into the appropriate box, basket or bag.  Don’t stop to analyze. If you are uncertain, place in the keep box/basket.  When the timer goes off, stop.  Go to another room, get a glass of water, wash a sink load of dishes – whatever needs to be done.  When you are ready to go back, set the timer for another 15 minutes.  I wouldn’t do this for more than a total of 45 minutes on your first day.  You don’t want to get burned out.  After your second or third session (or when your boxes/baskets are full) take the items that you are going to keep, and place them where they belong.  Place the items to give away, into a large paper bag, staple shut, mark the bag GIVE AWAY, and immediately take it out and place into the trunk of your car.  The trash goes straight into the outside garbage can.  No Second Guessing Yourself.

TWO HEADS CAN SOMETIMES BE BETTER THAN ONE

Get a friend to help.Trade off decluttering at each others homes..  It’s always a boost to work with someone else.  Put on some peppy music and get to it. Make sure that you find a decluttering partner that you are totally at ease with.  Someone who can be honest and upfront with you.  Having trouble staying out of the give away bag?  Have your buddy take it with them when you are done for the day. After a while, you’ll find that you feel empowered by being able to let go.

Yep – Less is often more! Having a clutter free organized home, by learning how to organize clutter,  will make you feel more relaxed and more energized.  It will also give you more free time, to enjoy your home and your family.  Do you have a decluttering tip that you would like to share with us?  Leave a comment and let us know about it.  Do you have a product or service that can help our readers declutter their lives?  3 Boys And A Dog would be thrilled to hear about it!
