Fun ways to use this printable:

These sheets work great independently, but you can make them even more exciting! Here are some easy ways to turn them into super fun Cinco de Mayo learning time:

Letter Hunt Fiesta!

Hide paper letters around the room and play some upbeat music! Give your child the missing letters worksheet and have them search for the letters they need.

When they find one, they can write it on their sheet. To make them easier to grab, put letters on little paper sombreros. The excitement levels for this game are off the charts!

Shake It Up With Letters!

Create simple maracas using plastic eggs filled with beans or rice—tape them shut and add popsicle stick handles. Put a letter on each one. Little learners shake a maraca, identify the letter, tell if it’s big or small, and color it on their sheet. The combination of movement and sound helps cement those letters in growing brains!

Rhyming Taco Shop

Craft paper tacos with words written inside. Set up a pretend taco shop where little chefs “order” rhyming words: “I need a taco that rhymes with ‘cat’ please!” This game gets them giggling while they learn. You can even make authentic tacos afterward as a treat!

Learn About Cinco de Mayo Together

Before starting the activities, take a few minutes to share some fun facts about Cinco de Mayo with your preschooler. Show them where Mexico is on a map and teach them easy Spanish words like “taco,” “Estrella” (star), or “maraca.”

Read a simple picture book about Cinco de Mayo or play Mexican music while they work on their sheets. Kids love connecting what they’re doing to actual traditions!

You don’t need to become experts on Mexican culture all at once. Just start their journey of learning about different traditions while building reading skills!

Quick Tips

  • Display their completed worksheets somewhere special—the fridge, a bulletin board, or a special learning folder. They’ll beam with pride when they see their work valued!
  • Do these activities when your child is fed and rested – hungry preschoolers and learning don’t mix well! Ask me how I know… 😂
  • Keep sessions short and sweet – 10-15 minutes is perfect for preschool attention spans.
  • Praise effort over perfection! “Wow, you’re working so hard on finding those letters!” works better than “That’s wrong, try again.”
  • If your child gets stuck, give hints instead of answers. “Look at the letter that makes the ‘mmm’ sound like in mommy” helps them learn to problem-solve.
  • Take breaks for wiggles! A quick 30-second dance party can reset a frustrated preschooler.
