Fun ways to use this printable:
These festive planning sheets make holiday prep so much more fun! I love finding new ways to use them beyond just writing down grocery lists.
Here are some of my favorite activities that make meal planning feel less like a chore and more like a celebration!
Family Menu Planning Party
Throw a cozy family planning party right in your living room! Spread blankets, serve hot chocolate with marshmallows, and get everyone excited about Christmas meal planning. My kids love suggesting their favorite holiday treats, and we always share stories about past Christmases.
This particular planning time has become one of our favorite December traditions. We play holiday music in the background and sometimes even wear our Christmas pajamas! The kids draw little pictures next to their meal suggestions on the planner, making it extra special.
The best part is seeing everyone’s eyes light up when their chosen dish makes it to the final menu. It makes the actual Christmas meal even more meaningful because everyone played a part in planning it!
Recipe Card Creation Station
Transform your menu planner into a family cookbook! Set up a crafting station with colored pens, stickers, and blank recipe cards. Copy the planned recipes and add special notes and cooking tips.
I love asking grandparents to join in and share their secret ingredients or unique cooking methods. We write down the recipes and memories attached to each dish, like how Grandma always burns the first batch of cookies or how Dad insists on wearing his “Kiss the Cook” apron while making his famous gravy.
The finished recipe cards become precious keepsakes that tell our family’s Christmas story through food. We store them in a special box and add new ones each year!
Budget-Friendly Holiday Challenge
Turn budget planning into an exciting game! Create teams and challenge each family member to find the best deals for their assigned ingredients. We use the shopping list to track prices and compete to see who can save the most money.
My boys have become expert price comparers. They check store apps and weekly ads to find the best deals. Sometimes, they even calculate the unit price to confirm we’re getting the most value! The process is teaching them real-life math skills without them even realizing it.
This challenge has helped us save money and taught us creative ways to make special holiday meals on a budget. Sometimes, the cheaper alternatives even taste better than the expensive options!
More Menu Planning Printables:
I love creating pretty planners that make meal planning fun! These are some of my favorites that I use throughout the year. Sometimes, I switch them up when bored with my current planner. A fresh, new design can excite me about planning meals again!
